Vanderlinde tuning setup

Tuning up my S, which has the Vanderlinde pipe and chip with K&N filter. Any thoughts on tune-up specs other than stock?

After perfect valve setting, butane or acetylene tracing for leaks around the intake area, new plugs, and perfect timing............make sure that the primary butterfly setting are exactly the same so that the bike will idle on each cylinder at the same RPM..........when the other cylinder is disabled either by pulling the injector wire or grounding plug.

Edit: (Just got a private message to restate the above about "grounding plug." Make Sure you ground the plug cap to avoid damage to system. Do not crank bike with plug wire "going to nowhere" ungrounded. I thought even a little brain would know this but that is not the case and thanks to a fellow member for suggesting a more forceful comment and clarification that its not the plug that gets grounded but the plug cap and wire that goes to the plug.)

Set the air screws the same.......lets say fully shut or a quarter turn out. Note what RPM one cylinder runs on when the other is not firing. Now reverse and see if the other is equal. If not........tune the primary butterfly settings till all is equal...........then adjust cables for balance. This will assure very smooth running at and off idle........as well as more balance thru-out the opening range of 90 degrees.

here's my personal tuneup which worked wonderfully well with me before I went back to experimenting via a PCIII.
bike: '99R1100S, vander system/vander chip, K&N (not sj pwrfltr) nology wires/coils.

plugs: NGK BKR7EA
Cat Code Plug removed.
02 sensor removed
0=0 tbs synch
.370 init. TPS voltage setting

it ran absolutely perfectly that way.

YMMV

good luck.
