Arai Face Shield Removal

I've read all the Bike World reviews and played with this face shield for hours and have yet to have it do anything but fight back like a cross-threaded bolt.
Does anyone have the code to this obstinate removal and replacement system??????

Bubba,

Try this, www.TheServicePavilion.com. I bought one of their New Aria's over the winter. The guy switched out a clear for a dark one in and about 1-2 minutes.

I will check the box to see if I still have the directions. If not, I think you could get help from the website.

Good Luck,
-X

First what arai do you have cause there are two systems. If you have the ones with the black small levers coming out of the sidepods when you flip the visor open then you have to move thes up as far as possible then grip the shield(helmet in front of you like it was on your head)with both hands one on the right side one on the left then bent the sides of the visor outward a bit and pull the visor back to you(does take a bit of force but nothing to drastic), you might here some clacking noises but this is fine. For puting it back on rverse the procedure. If you don't have the black levers the procedure is the same but without moving the black small levers(I prevered this old"harder"way). Second video is official arai featuring Nicky Hayden and probably the clearest.

Here are even some demo movies it's realy not hard just pul out the visor outwards and back.

Here is a video that shows how to remove and replace shield. It feels like you are going to break it, but it doesn't.

Great videos indeed!

I'm impressed that in the first YouTube video (from Skippy), the guy can take off and replace while wearing the helmet. And the third video is only 12 seconds long!

It truly does sound like I'm breaking the visor when I change it out. Tough to get over that sound!

Nos

(those are some really nice vids!)

I can change mine in probably 20 seconds and have done it while wearing it.. you just have to get over the feeling that you are going to break it

I have never had an Arai that didn't eventually break. Either one of the parts comes up missing, or one of the side covers disappears.

Arai really needs to change this design if they are going to survive.

I can change my Shark RSI sheild in an honest 20 seconds, in the dark, or with my eyes closed. My Vemar takes about 45 seconds.

I'm onto my 3rd Arai and never had any problems and over here the afterservice is great they will replace about anything free of charge and clean your helmet too while they are at it. Don't worry about breaking the visor something in the sidepots is bound to break before that...(never happened to me though).

Actually there's a new type of ARAI helmet that uses four screws (2 each side) ... in the UK it's called the Arai GP-5X Helmet ... dunno about the US.

Take a look at them here ...

http://www.araihelmet-europe.com/php/page/index2.php?page=gp5x_des

IS this the type of helmet you're having problems with or is it that traditional 'black lever' systyem?

Nick

As long as we are talking about Arai, I just got a Vector and had a very bad whistle coming from the front top vent over 30 mph. The guys at Arai in Bethlehem PA said bring it over. They tried a couple of things while I waited, and sent me home with a Delta4 scoop just in case. Wound up removing the standard scoop and replacing it with the Delta scoop facing backwards. Helmet is now the quietest I have ever had. Have to give a big thanks to the guys at Arai's race shop in PA.

Thanks guys! I just put 475 miles on my nused R11S yesterday and killed a gazillion bugs with my Arai face shield. This will help me to see again. I'd like to see someone invent a peel-away that would be invisible to eye. When the bug juice got to bad you just peel it off and presto a new clear visor. I'm doing this on my Blackberry so will have to wait on the you tube demo. Mine is the Signet GT and is due for a time change but it's the best fitting helmet I've ever had. I just hate the visor holding mechanics.

Hooray! Off and on in 30 seconds. Never mind the sound of crunching plastic. I'm 20/20 vision again!

Glue for Air Vents

My air vent is loose on my Arai. Does anyone know what kind of glue they use to stick the air scoops on the helmets.

The scoops have a little run of double stick stuff on them. I would try 3M trim adhesive, you can get it from auto parts stores.
