Shannon Cowl Has Left Colorado and now in Utah
Yesterday Mike Gehl and I agreed to connect in Grand Junction, Colorado in order to keep the cowl moving. Mike rode over Westbound from Vail taking several choice/stellar Colorado passes on the way. McClure pass, and then over the Grand Mesa come to mind. Apparently there was a little bit of rain and painful hail on his ride. Vail, by the way is approximately 160 miles from GJ as the eagle flies. I then rode Eastbound approximately 100 miles to our rendevous point - the Ale House. Seemed fitting as Shannon might have suggested it.
It was a fairly fast handoff as Mike had parental responsibilities back home and was supposed to be back at 3:00 and unfortunately it was already 1:00, so we had a really nice lunch at the Ale House and then hit the road, each going our seperate ways. Ironically, upon examining the cowl I noticed that the very first leg and handoff occured exactly two years ago, on May 20, 2005 from Steve Abella (Phoenix) and Bob (from Tucson) to P. Willikers & Jim Swanzy, meeting in Sanderson, Texas. The cowl has stood up remarkably well although some names are starting to fade and wear. Anyway, here's my pictures of the transfer: ![]() My bike waiting for the cowl. Not sure where its going to fit yet. ![]() Mike rolling in with the goods. ![]() The cowl. ![]() The old and the new. ![]() Relaxing lunch out on the patio. Hats mandatory for helmet hair. ![]() Mike signing the cowl prior to the handoff. ![]() Perfectly done! ![]() The cowl has left the state. Nothing more to see there.

Utah!
Shannon might or might not have enjoyed the state of Utah. Oddball liquor laws, and although he may have enjoyed many girlfriends, many wives may not have been to his liking. Who knows?
![]() By Heck, it's Utah. ![]() We're on the road to nowhere... (Talking Heads) ![]() Taking a break by the Colorado River. ![]() And passing through Castle Valley. ![]() Whew, time for a drink, it's been a long journey... kinda sleepy... ![]() Hey? What's this guy up to?? ![]() Nooooh !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ![]() ![]() Help!! Someone rescue me........ ![]() To be continued down the road... Maybe

someone ought to hit the cowl with a little clearcoat. the ink in the marker, apparently isn't waterproof.

...my suggestion, someone spray the part that has signatures on it with a couple of layers of clear coat... that way, neither sun nor abrasion will do to much to the existing signatures... it's what I do for a living!

My apologies ck, but that cowl must certainly be itching to get the heck away from that Harley.... ![]() KeepTheShineyPartUp (or anyone else for that matter), do you have an itinerary in mind for getting up into Utah to rescue the poor thing? Only reason I ask is that my time is filling rather fast (frankly, it may already be too late but hey) and need to know if it is headed this way or not.....if it is, it would be good if this hand off is performed before the real heat hits Vegas..... Thoughts? What we gonna do fellas? Brock Founder of: Rescuethecowlfromtheharleydudeassociation

Hey ckcarr, This is Paul (pwillikers). Bob (from Tucson) and I will be in Flagstaff tomorrow, Wednesday night, and then we're heading up towards Utah for Thurs., Fri. and Sat. We need to be back in Tucson by Tuesday night. If we can arrange to have a beer then let's do it! In any event, I'd like to have your sage recommendations for must ride roads in southern Utah, of course, the more squiggly the better. Route 12 is on the list. Any others you can recommend?

A future Pelicaner friend just picked up a BCR in SLC. I should have had him get the cowl to the Midwest. It's pretty this time of year.
