I've been lusting after a GS for a while now but I need two things, garage space and more importantly, funds.

Advrider.com has a big thread on folks doing serious traveling on their DRZ's. I was originally a little skeptical about a 400 vs. a 650 for adventure touring, but I came away a believer in the lighter bike. I was just so much more comfortable in the rough stuff on my 280-lb DRZ than my friends on 350-400 lb KLR's and KTM's. I even had to rescue a friend who got pinned under this KLR and couldn't get the damn thing off him. The seat remains a bit of a concern, but I was Okay. The stock DRZ seat starts off a bit uncomfortable to my tush, but never gets much worse. As long as the days aren't too long, I'll be Okay and I may try an aftermarket seat. But youp can only go so far with the narrow seat pan of the DRZ. But in the rough stuff, narrow is good. Sorry about the DRZ tangent. But as you can tell, I'm really jazzed about the DRZ afer its inaugural tour - almost the perfect dual sport than can both do light touring and be a trail bike too. As I said before, if you can have two bikes, I think a DRZ (or perhaps a KLR) along with an S makes a lot more sense than trading for a GS. The GS makes sense if you can only have one bike or you simply want a road bike that is much more comfy than the S. - Mark |

Dang this thread. I've been thinking about an Adventure for quite some time.
Test rode one today. Picking mine up tomorrow.
