Got my insurance Bill...
...great news!
I got (and paid) my insurance bill for my bikes... I was happy to see that it went down from $498 for the last year to $358 for the next one. That is not to bad for 3 motorsickles... one of which is fully covered (the sportster) the other two run on a 150/300K policy with no theft or full coverage. I am very happy with Progressive, before that I had Farmers and foremost.... both of which at least twice that much! It is always a pleasure to have a real person on the phone within minutes as opposed to hours and if that person is friendly AND helpful it's even better. Thought I'd share this info, it may be valuable for someone out there in cyberspace...

I hate progressive. Worse company out there.
When I was shopping for my R1100S and I called around for quotes, they wanted $3k/year for a 99, and $4500 for an 04. I ended up with $1100/year for my 99. Those are all maxed out full coverage.. I will NEVER give Progressive a call for insurance quotes again, even if by some miracle they were 1/2 the price of other companies I would not use them. NO reason for them to try to charge that rate when others my same age, location, etc were paying less then $1000/year with them... I have Dairyland for my R1100S and the policy is nice. Has something like a $3000 aftermarket parts coverage built into it, and $1000 riders gear reimbursement, both for no extra charge. So, just in case, my Ohlins, Remus pipes, and luggage would be covered, without paying ridiculous prices. Glad to see that progressive isnt as bad for you, hope they take care of you! Matt

another +1 for Progressive.
For me it is $78.00 a year (150/300 liability only) for 4 bikes (rural California). 2004 R1100S BoxerCup replica, 2001 F650GS Dakar, 1986 XL350, and a 2001 Z-50 replica--aka: 1/4 Cup (street legal "Monkey Bike"). The XL350 and Z-50 actual cost in the negative numbers. The added multiply bike discount they add, is less then the cost to insure them, ie: is it $86 to insure just the R1100S and F650GS. Easy online service, and I've had great service over the phone. No claim experience (YEA)... but the price is right.

...why don't you tell us how you REALLY feel about them, Matt??? LOL
Sorry to hear that have made a bad experience with them.... I am happy as a clam. I don't see the point of full coverage for me, as it usually is easier and cheaper in the long run to fix the bike if you do it yourself and get the parts off ebay, craigslist etc. (I always have a whole collection of parts that one could possibly need for every bike I own) if you ever need them... I try hard not to in first place. If I had a new bike, financed bike etc., yes, I'd go for full coverage (as it is with the sporty... for one more month)... but for the other bikes, I like the math and the calculated risk of not paying up the wazoo... and spend that money on road trips, tires, useless gadgets and so on... Are you in for the SLO ride, btw.?

Insurance costs people throw out can be very misleading.
Some (often) is contingent on being tied to other vehicles. Some conveniently leave out missing coverage. Best to just do your own research. Progressive cracks me up. I just went to their site and ran an insurance quote for my two bikes. $2,450 per year. No thanks.

I have full coverage on both my bikes. Bikes would be the last thing I wouldn't have full coverage on. Especially if they are worth > $10,000 each.
Through Farmers (Which covers my Jeep and Sierra) my Harley is $50/$100, $500/ded collision & Comp is $149 year. Farmers won't cover the R1200S so I use Dairyland at $429 (price just went up) with the same except $250/ded for comp. If I decided to get another GS, either an F650, F800, or R1200 that is insurable by Farmers and it will go back into the fold at $149 year. You people with collectable cars you never drive might consider American Collectors Insurance. My 30 year old Porsche is only $111 per year full coverage. There's an advantage to getting old.

Farmers won't cover the R1100S either. Or the F800S. Or the K1200S or the K1200R.
They covered me on my R1100S due to a grandfathering in. I guess they don't want the exposure anymore. Squids on bullet bikes, midlife crises on Harleys, BMW's and Ducatis. All are high risk these days.

signit, yes in for SLO ride
![]() I think alot of the other companies are pretty consistant in their pricing. Progressive seems to be VERY random, and in alot of cases completely obsurd, as me and ckcarr found out Unimog, know a guy by name of Bruce in your area? Fellow Uni, sports car, and motorcycle guy. Matt

Markel (Bikeline) has been most fair in pricing for me
They were helpful in getting liability coverage for escort duty in a Run I helped with, I only kept that coverage for 4 days, I had my homeowner's Insurance problem because I thought one my mutts breeds was Akita. Don't mention shepherd Rottweiler or Husky either. (Free Tip)

You absolutely have EVERYTHING working against you there, Matt!
25, ticket and financed... yeah, no wonder they are sticking it to you! I have a ticket (speeding) on record for 1 more month and it has never even affected my insurance... they mentioned it, but it fell withing the 2 items are forgiven rule... I guess being a little older does have it's advantages after all!

I'm insuring a house, a K1200R and an R1100s and an Aprilia scooter (all with full coverage), for $1,100 a year through Allstate. Cheaper than anybody else I've checked with by far. Not bad considering I've got 2 tickets (ugh) and am 27. I used to pay $1,100 for JUST the R1100S.

Johnny... owning a house makes you more responsible in the eyes of the insurances... for whatever wild reason, nothing to scoff about, I guess
