Even one oscillation is too much. I see it all the time. 10 or 20 times in a weekend sometimes.
40mm is a high number at the back. The factory errs always on the side of extreme caution. I don't know what is so hard to understand about this. They tell you to not put more than 10lb in your luggage and not exceed the speedlimit too. 40 is not stupid high, but quite high still. Even 35mm is pretty conservative. That's about the upper limit we ever set sag, assuming the spring allows the correct range (not always the case)
