Fiberglass belly pan from eBay.
Does anyone know anything about these German belly pans?

Dan Alexander 06-06-2007 05:43 PM

I was wondering if anyone else would notice those .... $99 instead of the $2000 one .... you could buy a few spares and still come out way ahead

I`m not sure I would trust this, because the color doesn`t look right. It should be made of carbon fiber( I think), which is not pale in color. Also, the price is like way off, like $2000 off. But, the part looks correct in its dimision to me and if it is made of fiber glass, although not as strong as CF, probably would work ok.

signit98 06-06-2007 07:11 PM is regular glass, but who cares.... carbon fiber breaks just the same if you hit something, it's just a little lighter... being that you have to take more layers of regular glass to achieve the rigidity of carbon fiber... also, regular glass is easier and quicker to repair!

and, even for regular glass, the price is on the low end...but then again, once you have the form, gelcoat and glass layup is no big deal... hence, you can make those reasonably cheap... they look well done though, from what I can see in the pictures.

You can always paint the inside black if you need the impression of carbon fiber :)

How much is the mounting hardware. It doesn't appear to be included.

$190.34 from Max BMW. Of that, the main front bracket is $ 113.00, and a bolt is $29.00.

wow someone finally took a mold of the bmw unit and made a cheaper option. i run the bike about 50/50 with the pan. depends on if i am doing any maint. just remember if you go riding with it off, the bushings that fit into the frame can come out, even when they feel like they are in the frame tightly. i safety wire them so they stay put.

You could look at this one also:
(200 euro)

Or real CF:
(299 euro)

Mounting hardware included, they are also on Ebay,

I've got the pan and mounting hardware on my Prep, and I can say for a fact that you can make your own mounting hardware easily for almost nothing.

I now wish that I had waited to pick up a belly pan. I think the examples here are better looking than the one I have and are way less expensive.

Yup. Looks pretty simple.

repoe3 06-07-2007 08:50 AM

the bushings are pretty cheap, like $8 each or something...maybe $16. def. could make your own bracket and get a bolt.

AndrewA 06-07-2007 09:06 AM

Does this look like an exact copy of the original, or is it a little different?

signit98 06-07-2007 09:45 AM

...looks identical to me... from what's visible in the picture

repoe3 06-07-2007 10:34 AM

yep, looks like a mold of the OEM pan. though it does look a tad thinner, perhaps more flexible. but some all fiberglass bodywork i have for the tuono is not very flexible at all and would blow apart into a million bits if crashed hard enough.

I have one of these, i got it last fall when it was only $70!! i couldnt find anywhere to buy mounting hardware so i just made my own bracket. I used some quarter inch steel and 2 "L" brackets from Lowes, i bent it and cut it and drilled it and brazed it together. It probaby took 20 hours to complete just the bracket. Painting has not happened yet and i have decided not to try and take that project on by myself, im going to have a local body shop paint it for me. Its just gonna be black, and i dont need the best paint job ever cause the paint is going to be mostly under the bike, so im hoping to get it done for a hundred or so. The workmanship on it is pretty good. It is not one whole piece though. The very front is a separate piece, there is a small seam that i was able to smooth out with some bondo. It was a worthwhile purchase in my eyes.

that carbon fiber one is good looking and only $299 ... cheap!

gigantic 06-07-2007 03:23 PM

That's 299 euros, which equates to $401.65 us, or $426.10, in Loonies. still cheap compared to OEM

Dan Alexander 06-07-2007 04:36 PM

exactly, really cheap compared to the oem but you have to paint it and get a bracket

Dan Alexander 06-07-2007 04:37 PM

wait a sec, no need to paint the carbon one so it's a better deal

AndrewA 06-07-2007 05:15 PM

How much could it cost to paint?
