Grabbed the wrong bottle!
Bought both the Hypoid Gear Oil sae 80w90 GL-5 and the Super Synthetic Gear Oil sae 75w140 four months apart. Last night I dumped the 12k mile oil (red in color) out of the tranny. The plug came out easy as pie with the motor at operating temp. The kicker: I put in the new Hypoid oil instead of the new Super Synth! Any problem with leaving it in there for next 3k miles? What are the ramifications of going backwards Synth to Dino in the gear box?

Thanks Dan. I'll be acutely aware of any shifting differences for awhile. Maybe it'll get smoother. At any rate it I'll remove it at 3k more miles or sooner. A dinosaur is a terrible thing to waste.

i once had a neighbor kid/helper working on a bike with me. he grabbed fuel injector cleaner instead of dot3 brake fluid and filled the front reservoir for me.
yep, a fun, REALLY fun day at the track next morning. didn't take more than half a lap to figure out something was seriously wrong. took the drive home to figure out what had happened.

You want to talk about wrong bottles, my friend recently gave her dog prozac instead of the correct medicine.
She did say the dog seemed much happier...(I made the last part up).

never trust a bottle of 'beer' that just mysterously appeared next to your toolbox or bike. unless you have a personal 'taster', of course.

My buddy Ed tell the story of how he grabbed a bottle of Bondenie (a superglue) instead of his eyedrops in the dark. He was working in the hospital at the time, was too embarassed to go to the emergency room. The stuff won't stick to a moist eyeball but his eyelid/lashes looked weird for a few weeks.
