Calabogie track day

Had a fantastic time at the Ottawa Safety Council's track day on Sunday. Tim (SAHD) on his boxer cup along with Dale (RC51Drag) on his HP2 and another Pelican lurker who's been around here for a few years but never posts .. come on say 'Hi' to the guys Plus a great bunch of guys from Ottawa and Toronto and beyond.
Tim lead us around and showed the lines we should take and I must admit, it took quite a while to get only partly familiar with them. I really need to get back there soon.

What an amazing track! Pavement as smooth as a pool table and amazinggly good grip. I heard tell that there's something very special about how the pavement was made onsite with the special type of clay that's in the area and how it combined to create asphalt with a very special 'puck' as it was called. All new to me but man was it good to ride on. The track was designed by Alan Wilson who has done many GP tracks and he did masterfull job designing the track up, down and around the natural geographic features there. All kinds of elevation changes, lots of curves, and many really tricky decreasing radius corners. If you're really smooth it's a blast but if you didn't get the entry and apex right on you made a mess of the next corner. WOW!

Here's a pic of what happend on my first unescorted lap when I got a bit frisky but miss timed an exit and then entry and suddenly had to lean waaaay down to make the corner or it was off the track. Sure focuses the mind on the cones the next time around

Check out the magnesium dust ... too bad I wiped most of it off wondering what it was ... must have sparked really good.

Great to finally meet you Dan. And nice seeing you again Dale.

It was a blast riding together.
I know the morning sucked a bit for you guys because of the
slow pace and red flags.

And at our lunch meeting on the rock, aka Canadian Shield,
didn't I tell you the afternoon was going to get better.

And unlike you guys, these jokers below didn't follow my line and
turned in way to early for a good drive out to the upcoming 2 turns
leading onto the front straight.

Hey Dale did you pick up a CD? Make sure to post a few pics.

The track looks beautiful, as does the BCR.

Hey Tim ... good pic of two grumpy looking guys ... I'm sure they were smiling more that afternoon

It was that second last corner before the straight where I banged my head down, you really do have to follow the right line and thanks for showing them to me.

That's quite a pile of earth in the background of the pic ... never noticed it while I was riding ... must be for sound control?

Hey Dale .. you going on Monday for sure? I can swing a day off!

Now it's time to find a track bike

Weather is calling for showers on Saturday and Sunday. Think I'll head up to the Ferrari weekend at Mt. Tremblant instead. Monday still looks good, otherwise I'm in for the DOCC double header in July.
