WOT - observed space debris reentery
Like it says, Way, Way off topic.
Last night (12 June 07) sitting on back deck watching TV after sunset (about 9:20 PM CDT). I was facing NW, caught motion out of the right side of my visual field, and there, just above my neighbor's roofline I see a string of 7 to 8 chunks burning up. They came in as a linear train, nearly horizontal, slowly stringing out, just like several other events I've seen on video. But this was real. No time to grab a video camera, just watch and point it out to the wife. From the little I know about meteor burnup and such, these were about 270,000 feet up (give or take how much?) probably moving about 100 to 150 miles in the space of 4 to 8 seconds (visually about 60 degrees across the sky). Went behind a tree and did not come out the other side. No reports of it in the news today, nothing to be found on the internet. Don't know where to make a report if I wanted to. Just very interesting that it was there, it happened, it was totally silent, and the debris, if it made the ground, is probably in Lake Michigan or the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. Trajectory was west to east probably right along or just north of the Iowa-Minnesota border. Whatever it was, it was fairly large, though not of the size of a shuttle. Maybe a booster. Wrong trajectory (I think) for a Russkie. Probably one of ours. Anybody else see it?

Well, if you recall I saw something similar out here back in January. 6:00am, pitch black and then this (see video) streaking slowly across the sky in front of me. These newsreaders didn't know what they were talking about as it turned out to be a Russian booster rocket. But they had the best video.
