No ZTechnik Exhaust for R1200S

Apparently there will be no ZTechnik exhaust for the R1200S per an email I received from them.

Too much competition apparently .

...probably the later... I can honestly say that I have - since it's inception - only seen ONE silver 12S out on the street... considering that I ride 300 miles average every weekend, that is not a very high number!

Maybe it's both. Perhaps there is too much competition for the limited volume...

...low cost???... did they ever look into pricing for Laser and/or Akrs systems for the 12S... I somehow fail to see the "low pricing"!

they probably mean low margin which is really the deciding factor as to if they should make the plunge or not.

I'd just be guessing, but perhaps back in the day, when they came out with the R1100S exhaust they probably had more of a cornered market except for Staintune and a couple others.

Now, the others all jumped in right away so the potential profits just aren't there.

And, they are probably confused or nervous about what "style" they would have to commit to.

I'd buy the low sales volumes argument except that, again, the r1100s was no better in the early years.

...'I'd buy your argument with the 11S not having been better in the "earlier years", Craig... 'xept the whole 2 wheel market in general is deteriorating rapidly... the used bike market in major urbs and sub-urbs is shot and the new bike market leaves a lot to be desired...

In the end it is not that surprising... it's the endless debate: you look at what the japs deliver for sub 11K and then there comes the brilliant move of Ducati offering the 1098 basis model (which is more than adequate for the "rest of us") for just under 15K...

The kicker here is that you might actually be able to argue that the Beemer is every bit as good as the 1098 - yet, what is most bikers object of lust since childhood... mine has certainly not been the bajuwarian boxer... not that I can recall...! As a mater of fact, it took me 45 years to own my first Beemer on two or 4 wheels... though, now I am very happy that I did take that step.

There is that little marketing point of Ducati having won a couple of championships here and there and them actually being in a good position to win the next one as well...

Where is BMW on that front?... ah, I forget... they won a class of their own at LeMans... the Inaugural MotoST in Daytona and a couple of Thunder and Pro-Am races here and there... as much as their latest efforts are admirable. it pales to the MotoGP Campaings of the key manufacturers in the world...

Let alone that they just simply don't have a bike capable of competing in that circuit...

Nah, the low sales and/or profit margin volume makes sense... especially since BMW has take it to hart to campaign two manufacturers already...

That would be Steve with a modified FD, yes he can fly. I have owned for a year now and have 12k, that with 3 bikes, can't stop grabbing the R1200S. Just got back from San Diego BMW and saw a yellow one with the Akropovik looks very good and tidy just pricey. I think it is $1200 just for the slip on. I want that and the bags too.

...I'll - from here on out - will stop at every black tuono and/or yellow R12S and ask "SEAN???"

...we usually run the south (94 - Japatul or Harbison... sometimes Campo/La Posta and then Old Sunrise Hwy... Julian, Banner down to Borrego up Montezuma, Mesa Grande, if its late enough we do south grade, if not east grade... that kind of stuff... about 250 to 300 miles... back we often stop at The Donkey store (Lions Valley) that's where I saw the silver 12S last year... ONCE!

Ralf is the name...
