Your Old Buddy has a few words...

Holy fakkin crap. Where does the time go? As I write this, I am back in Long Island with my new girl (met her up in VT at the car dealership) living in the Old Man's basement. We are waiting for the last few pieces of gear to come in from Touratech and Aerostitch. Also waiting for NY licenses in the mail and the letter from BMW Financial Services that "allows" me to register the bike in a different state. This gives us time to hit the beach and work on our tans in preparation for the big trip. What big trip you ask? Lemme splain:

Vermont is a wonderful place five months out of the year. Putting the bike away for seven months out of the year is just not what the YAHBO is about. New Year's resolution? LESS TALK MORE ACTION. Although quite inspired by this phrase, I resisted the urge to tattoo it on my face. Or pecker. After watching Long Way Round six times December 31, I decided to sell the VT house and stop talking about riding and actually do some. Mary is a VT native and willing to explore (or so she thinks) and I asked her if she would be up for a two month Alaskan adventure on the GS. She is hip. And 5' tall and 99 lbs. So, we sold the house, closed May 15 and have been to Maine, PA, and Ireland basically f***ing around (three yard sales) while we gear up for this adventure which blasts off next thursday.

We are going to hit upstate NY, Rochester area. I have a good buddy there. Then south to VA and the Carolinas...Georgia...east TX (Roger, you home?), Mid Ohio for VMD (July 27-30 spaces S10-S12) onto CO, southern AZ, CA and then north to Alaskie. Ambitious, I know. We have the time and the gear and the desire. We have no set plan or schedule. I have the bike geared up with the Touratech panniers, a ZUMO 550 (any experts please email me, I have questions) and Aeroflow...and all the necessary pieces to make a trip like this.

If anyone wants to hook up along the way, please email me. I would seriously like to meet some of the people that are on this forum that I have irritated or delighted over the years. I know that my participation has waned over the years, but I am still here and have always been. When I sold the S and got the GS, ADVRider was just a natural migration for me. they are stuck up pricks over there though, and I miss the easy natured good times feel of this board. We will be camping/motel/hotel as we go. Gonna try to stay at Two Wheels Only and other motorcycle resorts.

If anyone can offer advice and recommendations about routes, roads and restaurants throughout this beautiful country of ours, I would appreciate it. I am going to hit the internet hard and start amassing info on where to go and stay and eat and input from all peoples will be taken into consideration. If anyone wants to get together and ride a portion or a few states, that would be most welcome especially if you are riding with a lady. Mary grows tired of hearing me speak out my mental narrative 24/7. She needs female company sometimes I am sure.

So, my friends. I say this...

YAHBO SAY RIDE!

Yahbo, sounds like a real adventure! If you happen to come by Hollyweird and the associated areas, please let us know as I'm sure the pelicans out here would love to see you.

Sounds like quite a trip! I never got to know you well enough to be irritated by you, so you both are welcome to stay here for a night or two if you pass this way. And I can escort you out of the neighborhood either out of delight or irritation as you move on, too.

Hey YAHBO,

How about some pix of your setup, I've been thinking about a similar (distance and time wise) trip after my house is sold. Meanwhile, have a safe trip.

Oh man, where to start... You've got so many possibilities. There are so many great roads in CO, AZ, UT, CA, OR, WA, etc etc etc. Ad nauseum. WA is my specialty of course, but I've got a good bit of experience throughout. Matters when you make it through the Bellingham area, but my girl and I would love to hook up for a ride, and hey... I might even have my garage/office/guest bedroom built by then! Make sure to drop a line if it's convenient. I can recommend a couple great routes north to the Alcan too in the Vancouver vicinity, etc.

can i go too?

last time i was in vermont, i stopped at a gas station, went inside to pay.

Owner was behind the counter.

"Hey", i said, "I've heard that folks up here in Vermont don't talk much....that they're kind of tight-lipped? Tell me....is that true?"

He looks at me and says:

"nope".
