Friday Fun Poll: To Tune or not to tune?

Riding with music.
I've been doing it for years, to the point where I pick particular sets of songs to go with particular sets of twisty roads.

But some other riders can't do it at all.

Many of us have seen the Shelly dance, watched the John Lyon head-bob, heard Jeff Williams scream: "I CAN'T HEAR YOU I HAVE MY HEADSET ON!"

So...when you ride, do you hear the sound of wind, tires and engine, or do you enhance it with music?

...my option is not in there... I won't ride with music because the music I WANT to hear while riding comes from below... I don't even use earplugs on the track...

Though, I have to admit, it is getting a little loud over time...

Yeah, but I'm confused...

How do I stand up, light my BIC, chant encore, encore,... and

twist grip, pull levers, push knobs ... all at once?

Shiney, perhaps you'd be interested in the Shelly B School of Motorcycle Swing.

Yes, that's right, now all the famous moves from Shelly are available to YOU, right in your own garage! This two-set DVD shows you every move, step-by-step so you TOO can look, swing and sway like a pro!

DVD #1 includes:
The finger snap, Travolta point and head bob. They're ALL set to music and they're ALL easy to learn.

DVD #2 features:
The hip sway, the butt wiggle and the full body snake.

PLUS if you act now, you can get the special "Songs I like to Apex with", a special selection of tunes that Shelly herself uses while riding.

Operators are sitting by.

Void where void, prohibited where prohibited, not available in Ohio or Puerto Rico (nobody knows why).

I used to ride with music and loved it, but I found myself listening to the radio and then getting picky and trying to change stations by feel and after a couple of time not looking at road I said that was enough and removed it from my euro-com. Then the euro-com broke and I never went back.

I've tried it a few times. I get...carried away when something like 'hocus pocus' from focus is cranked to the max. Only time I ever drug a head I was rocking out. It amps me up too much when riding...

...yeah, riding behind shelly is funny... all of a sudden she slapps her hand on her thigh... her head weaves and shakes and then she wiggles... at first, I thought she has a seizure... until I realized the girl is rockin' out...

Far out... she rides well and does not seem to be distracted... so more power to her as well... I - as mentioned before - like the sound of the engine and the wind... part of why I am riding!

...i figure the odds be 50/50!

Many of us have seen the Shelly dance...
Shelley? I sthat that guy in the blue and white leathers?
I wondered what the frick he was doing...it was very distracting riding behind him.

Nope, no music, I have flashbacks too easy...I have enough drug-induced live concert tunes burned into my brain cells as it is...maybe some Montavanni in at a very low volume...

Funny you should post this thread. I did just purchase a IMC Helmet Speaker System in a whim...dare I?
Probably to deaf to hear them anyway.
I don't even like earplugs, I feel too isolated.

USED TO IN THE OLD DAYS

When i used to ride before "retiring" in 95 i was prettty adept with a cd player in my tank bag. I had to choose the "cant walk and chew gum" option nowadays though, as my life is so full of bs just getting to ride is a priveledge and doing it well without distractions a minor miracle for me.

NICE TO SEE THE RETURN OF THE FUN FRIDAY POLL!!

scott~
i had a tape player that strapped to your chest in the early 70's. must have weighed 15 pounds with that giant battery.
plus speakers jammed into the helmet...exceptionally painful after the first few hundred miles.

on a non-stop hero-run (honda cbx) from houston to home, i pulled out the tape to turn it over while riding along at about 100 mph...not so smart a move, i discovered.

you know those little wheels on each tape spool? yea...they're VERY aerodynamic.

as soon as the air hit it, the tape went "zzzzziiiippppp", and trailed out about 100 feet behind me.
took about 3 seconds to decide to toss it over my shoulder.
so much for the "Hottest Hits of 197?"

the iPod works mucho bettah. after 40,000+ miles of being bounced, g-forced and generally beaten to ***** in the tank bag, it still works perfectly. (replaced the battery last month...no big deal).

currently has about 6 weeks of non-stop music. figure there ain't a road long enough to hear it all.

Both me and my pillion ride with our Ipods on. I just got the Monster remote control and need to figure out a way to place it between my handlebars. My pillion also has a remote control. Both of us us the Shure E2c headphones, best $99 I have spent for headphones they work great and last.

I used to ski with one of those big heavy cassette players strapped to my chest. I thought I was really grooving listening to Bob Marley and ripping the runs at Squaw Valley.
Then I crashed hard onxce and about broke my sternum.. End of that story.
Now a days I get too distracyted by tunes on the bike but when I'm really "in the groove riding" I usually have a tune in my head....

Love my I pod but not on the bike..
