I bought a kit to install the system cases in my bike. It didn't come with any instructions. I was searching the forum and it looked like a very simple thing to install even for a guy like me.
But I found some problems. I can't install the left one. I don't know how to access to the screw that is under the seat. On the right side is easy but on the left there is something in the middle so the rail gets blocked. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I had the same issue:
System Case Brackets well, I took it off right away, but then questioned whether what I did was right... ![]()

This makes me wonder where MY heat shield is... I bought my Prep from the original owner, who never had system case brackets on the bike. HMMMmmmm... Regardless, no plate, no problem when I installed mine, and no problems in the year since.

So, removing that heat shield is not going to cause any problem in the future?

I'm no expert, but like I said, mine had neither the heat shield nor the mounting brackets when I bought it used w/stock exhaust... no paint bubbling, no indication of damage or even that there should be a part there (this thread is the first time I've heard of this piece). Since then, I've put on the brackets & aftermarket exhaust, and there's no damage to the brackets or anything else.
Maybe it's there to keep curious fingers from getting burned... but then why wouldn't there be one on the other side? Wait--stock exhaust is single-in, eh? Is it on that side? That would be sensible, I guess.

according to the earlier thread, the heat shield is used to protect your hand when you put the bike on the center stand... and that is right where you grab. And, even though BCRs don't have center stands, it is probably easier to leave it on during the assembly/manufacture of the bikes, than to specifically leave it off on the BCR ones...
point is, when you have the brackets, you can lift onto center stand with that, instead of putting your hand near the exhaust.
