Are we physically fit???

How much do we R1100S/R1200S owners exercise???

Do you guys work out at the Gym, Play Racquetball, run, swim laps???? Or is the motto "no pain... :no pain:" ...

As I age I find it harder and harder to keep up a simple routine of running 6 miles per week... but knowing that I trail ride sometimes; as much as, 50 miles per day with enduro riders. I have to stay in shape or take some serious mocking from them.

How about you guys...?

,,,46 years old... ride the excercise bike between 30 and 45 minutes every day... between 150 and 200 push ups and try to do between 60 and 100 situps/crunches through out the day (and that does get harder!)

I surf, swim and try to do a variety of excercises... as soon as my knee will allow, I'll start yoga... for a multitude of reasons:
Core Strength, Flexibility, Balance to name a few...

I ride the bike out of my abs and back... and, if I am not fit, I'll know quickly... as I have just recently experienced (less than two weeks after knee surgery) if my whole body is not in tune, I can not ride the bike at faster speed or continuous twisties anymore...

That, my high cholesterol and my Glucose intolerance are all the more reasons to excercise and stay in shape... and I don't mean the shape of a barrell.

6 miles a week!
I HATE running; I ride my mountain bike. just lost about 30LBs over the last two months.
I did an 80-miler on my XR this weekend and boy, amI feeling it. Bailing twice, once a head plant, and then pushing over a mile to the sweep truck after I blew it up trying to catch a KTM 450....yeah, I work out!

46 here too signit.... BTW You are the man!!! I haven't seen my abs in years.

I had to have my knee reconstructed after a bad crash.. and was back up to a 7 minute mile in 6 months... Now I am not as concerned and settle in at an 8 minute pace.

Johnny,
I love the MTB riding... 30lbs!!! how did you accomplish that? Manually operated margarita mixer???

Bill, I won't even start running again... I had both of my knees done within a years time frame... still not anywhere near "normal"... neither one.

But I have found the bike (mountain and stationary) as my salvation... it's positioned in front of the TV... I put my headset on and off I go.... Love it!

Oh, btw... don't even kidd yourself... my abs are well covered by the "backup muscles"... I just know they are there when working out... that's when the darn things burn like hell...

Just trying to not fall to the routine of getting all to comfortable just sitting around... pays off when participating in multiple track days or long days of hard riding!

Be sure and do stretching as your body allows. I find as I age that my hamstrings and lower back become progressively tighter if I don't make a conscious effort to stay supple. When I let it go all movements become jerky and unsure.

Other than that the usual weights, a lot of hiking, no running - I hate it.

It was a terrible winter though, the last one, when I tried on my BMW summer pants they no longer fit! I'm working on that.

I watch what I eat too... since after dinner I have had 1 Corona, 1 ice cream bar, 8 home made chocolate chip almond cookies that my daughter made and a glass of milk... I figure another Corona or 2 before bedtime since it is storming outside...

I weigh 185 and would like to be at 175

I run 25-30 miles/week, rock climb 2-3 times/week, elliptical a couple times/week. One knee rebuilt after ACL (skiing accident). 2 marathons over the last 3 years, but probably done with that as I need more time for climbing.

I pressure washed the pool patio with a 12hp Honda powered pressure washer for two hours yesterday. I could have used three more firefighter types to help. My arms are killing me today.

Does anyone remember the cable show "Yoga Zone"?

All of the instructors on that show were seriously motivating.

Mow the Grass with a push mower. Walk allot at work instead of taking a truck to a machine. Eat balanced meals. Ride the Mountain Bike behind the Daughter while she sprints ahead on her MiniMoto Maxii.

Still can't lose those extra 10 pounds though...Wifeys cooking is too flavorful, yes thats the excuse I'll use for the losing "battle of the bulge", er, ah, spare muscle I mean.

I stretch and make a point of maintaining proper posture. Not easy in this CRT/LCD dominated work environment.

I did all the running I ever want to in High School. Didn't get me any girls, and I never won any male respect, either. Now I only run from things with teeth and to things with food. All else, well, that's where Col. Colt steps in.

I'm blessed with above average genetics. Quite frankly, I think trying to force one's genetic traits to divert is well, stupid. If you have high cholesterol trying to medicate it "back" where it belongs is an interesting concept, but willy-nilly stupid. Your body is a finely tuned chemical engine quite a bit more complex that 1 little pill or compound can improve. Push the cholesterol down and the body just makes more. (And yes, I take Prozac for manic-depression/bipolar disorder in contrast to the above flame, and no, it only helps, it is NOT a cure. Death is the only cure for what I have.)

Each of us is a small evolutionary experiment. 6 billion experiments all running at the same time. The 6 billion will age and die according to a bell curve, and no amount of medication can shove you to one side of the other of the curve for very long.

On the other hand technology is useless if not used. That's counter-intuitive actually. Once our ancestors stepped onto the technology merry-go-round there was no place to get back off. There is no minimum acceptable level of technology. Eliminate the cave bears, start working on suppressing the lions and tigers. Move to the top of the food chain, start working on the parasites that make life nasty. Live long enough that diseases no one knew existed finally get a chance to kill you (like Alzheimer's or prostate cancer) and you have a new challenge. When people can expect to live 200 years on average there will be some new syndrome or disease unheard of and unthought of in our time killing in that time.

The poem goes something like this:
Big bugs have little bugs upon their backs to bite them,
And little bugs have smaller bugs,
And so on, ad infinitum.
