Wilbers rebuild?

I bought Wilbers for my R11, and not too much later I saw what looked like a prototype on a Van Henden racing bike. When I Inquired I was directed to their website, which had the shock for a princely sum. If you go to the Wilbers site, they show the parts they use to make all their shocks, and the top on the "proto" is not one of them. So th equestion I have is: can I get the top and reservoir on the proto, installed onto my existing Wilber 630?

shreddr, I see you're in Jersey. Do you know Steve Lenac? He's a Wilbers rep close to you, not to mention a good connection to have. He has an S and is one of the most avid moto-people I know of. I can hook you up if you wish.

...this is how a tire looks after the bike has been ridden the way it's fun! ...I hope you did that on a track

...btw. looks like the sides have gotten a little hot... I don't like it when that happens, there usually is quite a bit of "slip" the next time you go out... takes a few soft turns to get rid of that rubber!

...might be just the picture though.

...that shock is custom made for that bike...
...the reservoir is on the right, because of the custom made Laser on the left...

...BTW ; almost everything you see on that bike, is custom made...

hello! this is what I have been asking all along, is this a one-off or an available item! I think you sent me a link to an item on the Van Harten website, but it didn't look exactly the same, and the local Wilbers rep (Klaus) told me it didn't exist. I want to either have my shock converted to that, or buy the part and I will do it myself (preferred) so if anyone can hook me up with that option, I am all for it!

...it's a one-off...; and as you see it exists...
...and I don't think you can buy the parts...

if the one-off was the prototype, is this the production version? and if so, is that top available to rebuild my 630 version?

The shock picticed above is a #642 series & is not available for the R1100S. Most likely because it would fowl some of the exhausts available. They do offer a #643 series in P & QS form for the rear of the S. You mention a #630 Wilbers in your first post which is your front shock. Was that a mistake? Here's a pic of the #643/QS. Cost is close to $200 more then a #641 & the chances of them supplying you the parts to do the conversion yourself are slim to none. No idea what a service center would charge for the conversion or if it is feasible. You might be better off selling your current shock & ordering a new #643.

I am a dealer dealing direct with the factory, there is no importer per se. Wilbers isn't going to supply those parts to anyone outside of one of their factory service centers. You could try Klaus & see if he has anything like that still on the shelf but I'd tend to doubt it as he kept mostly to standard service work.
