Experienced spark plug readers please see pics

Just took these out of my 2000 R1100S. The previous owner must have installed them. What's the original factory part?
I know the shape and color are supposed to mean something. What do these tell you?

They look like Bosch Platinum +4 No# 4417.

What's wrong with them? $5.50 or so each.

I know what they are and I have already replaced them.

...they look fine.... if aanything, the bike runs a little on the lean side of things

BSnyder 07-06-2007 05:40 PM

Thanks signit. Is there a way to enrich the mixture without a chip? I guess that would explain why it "pops" sometimes on deceleration.

signit98 07-06-2007 05:49 PM

...power commander or, something alike... no cheap solution, really.

Does your bike have mods on the intake side (free flow filter) or on the exhaust side (cat eliminator, race exhaust)? These things make it necessary to adjust the mixture...

How many miles on the bike? Take out the O2 sensor and see what that looks like... that's another good indicator.

I think they look fine. Be ye glad.

BSnyder 07-06-2007 06:12 PM

The Two Brothers cat eliminator is installed. Other than that I believe it is totally stock. I think I'll leave it alone.

Thanks guys!

Wow that is weird. I just pulled my plugs yesterday to check on them and they look virtually identical. Why does the right cylinder leave the plug a bit black while the left one doesn't... that's what I want to know.

And you know, I like these Bosch plugs more than the NGKs. :D

Bob Hancock 07-06-2007 06:42 PM

I think it's a political thing Sergio. I'd take 'em back. :D

I see a tall brunette in your future.... And a large sum of money staying in your pocket... Now is the time to invest.

Now THAT was funny. :D

Sergio- I dont know what side each of my plugs came from. I didn't pay much attention to them when I removed them and didn't notice the difference until I brought them in the house.

It is caused by vortex swirl effect in the northern hemisphere....if you were in Australia then the left one would be darker than the right..... ;)

Bsnyder... the answers in this thread should tell you ANYTHING and EVERYTHING you'll ever need to know about this board...

boxercup 07-06-2007 07:52 PM

Yes What is the Issue>?

If it starts with a spark and we want hp from it; what do these plugs say to this audience?

The Coriolis effect? From the toilet to the S... nice. I heard that removing the canister reverses that? :D

Hi BSnyder,

some time ago I had the same doubt and I found useful the following link:

http://www.densoiridium.com/howtoreadusedplugs.php

Moybin 07-08-2007 07:37 AM

Luca:

Very nice link!

Has anyone seen a comparison of plugs between pure gasoline (is there such a thing?) and gasohol? With E85 starting to show up (in the Midwest where they grow it) what does that do to plugs? Do we need to get some alcy burning funny-car engine types here?
