OT-help removing a 2001 GSXR counter sprocket

evening folks, relaxing at the hotel after a day VIR south with another day tomorrow. need some help if anyone knows the answer...kevinSBX has a 2001 GSXR600 and needs to swap out the existing chain and sprockets. going to a 520 setup and the counter sprocket is held on with a large nut, then plate of some sort with a 6mm allen bolt. anyone know if this is regular or reverse thread and any help with getting it out? it is tight as crap and not looking any better at the moment as tools are starting to strip the head. the bike is fine and not keeping him from riding so no emergencies. cant seem to find any info online, service manual, etc. thanks in advance.

...and you will most likely need a puller... if you manage to get that nut loose, that is!

They are tight as hell... might have to heat the nut up... and use the force:

THE BRUTE FORCE!

The plate and allen is the speedo sensor.. the best way I've taken off the sprocket nuts is sit on the bike with it in 1st gear and your foot on the brake and pull up hard on a long breaker bar.. I haven't had one I couldn't get yet.

a 2x4 through the rear wheel to imobilize it, works too.

thanks for the replies...perhaps i wasnt clear. it isnt the nut that is a problem, yet. it is a smaller 6mm allen head bolt securing a plate on top of the nut. can believe that little thing is torqued in there so hard.

the rest of the weekend was great. though kevin decided to handicap himself a bit by highsiding in session 2 on the second day. he was fine and we were able to rip all the bodywork, instruments, etc off the bike and he ran it naked the rest of the day. never missed a session and acually lapped within a second or so of his pre-highside times.

boy was it hot...i am worn out. glad to say i took one session off in the middle of the day for a prolonged recovery and managed to finished the day...even setting the most consistent and fasted session on the finall session. we learned a new trick to head out to the track juat after its hot and the rest of the riders are out. makes for much more clear track and so many passing opportunities. though i was "spoken to" for some passes. seems some egos were hurt. one rider talked to me and said i cut him off. i apologized and then he said, " i was waiting for someone else." sunday was much better from that standpoint.

I've used an air driven impact wrench for things like this before. Start off with soft taps...increase until it takes it out. Not useful if you don't have these assets available though.
