OT - My First "Movie"
...here's a little taste of what we Southern Californians have to "DEAL" with, ON A WEEKEND LIKE THIS!
The "hooliganism" looks worse that it actually is, because of the limited view of the helmet-camera (fixed focal length)... 10 minutes of some of the best riding we have around here... it was a "high traffic" day... no kidding! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hE9jvu6reXc

...1050... speed triple, that is why he pulls away at times... quite the incline in some spots, camera does not show that. Elevation changes from 590' to 4350'... and yes, 110... it was a little on the warm side

Nice Ralf...I really like the Helmet-Cam in the way that the horizon doesn't get tilted like a Camera fixed to the Bike.

Nice job on the movie signet. Maybe next time you could turn of the display info though. I too like the helmetcam perspective. I haven't tried that yet but it is much more realistic looking. Just have to remember not to look over at the scenery and keep you eye on the road...hmm, not a bad idea anyway. Looks like you had no trouble keeping close to your buddy and I might say you had some better lines through the turns too.

Yes, Dan... but, as Scott said... I had to remember to keep my head forward... and not look around. ...and, coming to speak of that, Scott... I cut out the parts where I did... in the beginning  My friend is normally wicked fast... but he was not having the best of days, as a case of "Montezumas Revenge" was preventing him from enjoying himself to much! I have to learn a few things though... first would be to shut off the display, I guess!? But, as I stated, first attempt... more to come, for sure. I wanted to do Palomar as well, but I forgot to start the camera and there also were three accidents on the way up... would not have been to nice anyway, seems to have been one of those days where the "organ donors" were out in full force!

...fenring... to buy a small house or cottage there will not bbe very expensive (for CA standards, that is) but the Electricity and water bill will kill you...
Throttlemeister... point is, we HAVE "real twisties"... that'll be my next video... but the road you see is as close to perfect as it comes to me... all corners are mid-speed (between 40 and 90 mph) and it's a smooth flow, no hard braking, just swing in and pull through... that is MY preference. And, best of all.... IT ONLY RAINS MAYBE !) DAYS A YEAR THERE... and it ALWAYS is at least in the 70's during the day... Don't you forget, I grew up in Germany... where my bike was not registered for 6 months because it was not worth even thinking about riding!... LOL I have probably spent more time on the Nürburgring that Giacomo Aggostini did and the whole Nord Eifel was my second home... still like this road here better... because - evenn at the Ring - I have encountered more traffic almost ANYWHERE! ...it's a simple little video camera I bought for 75 buck on ebay... it's 2'x4'x.75" and I have velcro'd it to the left side of my helmet... took a while to find the right viewing angle and the proper following distance, but now it seems to work (youtube down-samples the video's to be virtually unrecognizable anyway). Like most of my solutions... it's simple, cheap and it works sufficiently for what I want to accomplish!

Ralf, I know. I just like yanking american chains when it comes to twistie roads.
Although this vid shows roads I personally find pretty boring. I prefer the tight technical stuff where the boys are seperated from the men. Hell, I am masochistic enough to enjoy Stelvio both ways.So you're basically riding around with a handycam taped against your head? Amazing footage.

Yeah, I'll take a picture of the setup... it's ridiculously simple... and the footage is ok on the computer... if you look at a decent lipstick camera, they are $150 and up... and then you still need the cam-corder to go with it!

The problem with riding footage is that even twisty roads looks untwisty. You have to be on something wicked tight before anything becomes really interesting on film. Or just edit to each corner. When something looks fast on film, it's because you are going insanely fast.
Bill, what have you done to your S to make it power wheelie like that? I know I'm not as heavy fisted, but that just looked easy. It's pretty sounding, too. |
