Moving abroad questions
I am entertaining the idea to pack up and move to england in the next year or so. I have many questions for those of you have done this or currently live east of the atlantic.
I would try to relocate to a different automotive shop in my international owned corporation, so I would retain the same job essentailly. I figure once I decide if it is possible and make the commitment I'll just go wherever i can get the best job. but for brainstormings sake I am trying to get some rough estimante on cost of living incoming and outgoing. What would a mid to high level auto mechanic makes in the different regions of England, but can't seem to pull those numbers up on the net anyone with first or even second hand experience? What should I expect to pay for a small furnished flat/apartment in those areas? It seems what I am finding are short term rentals i.e. less than 1 month. How about a garage? What about shipping a US spec bike over, what does it need to be legal?

Hi there
Hope some of the information below is of use. Cost of living is variable depending on location but the information below may give an estimate. http://www.workgateways.com/working-cost-of-living.html Income varies quite considerably from area to area. London is the best paid but cost of living is crazy. My brother lives in a one bed flat with a garden in a nice part of London and pays over £1000 rent but this includes taxes and utility bills. Loads of job sites around and many recruitment agencies so employment shouldn't be an issue. http://www.clickajob.co.uk/professions/Vehicle_Mechanic_Jobs.html http://jobsearch.monster.co.uk/jobsearch.asp?cy=uk&sq=not%2B%2527work%2Bat%2Bhome%2527&sort=rv&vw=d&q=mechanic&fn=&lid=&x=0&y=0 Hopefully this is a good guide on the property side of things. http://www.findaproperty.com/index.aspx?edid=00&salerent=1 This should give you a starter on the import side of things: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/BuyingAndSellingAVehicle/ImportingAndExportingAVehicle/DG_4022583 There will also be a need to have a UK driving licence and take the appropriate tests: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/DriverLicensing/DrivingInGbOnAForeignLicence/index.htm The only thing to do to your bike is change the headlamps (dip left instead of right) and convert it to left hand drive! Hope all goes well Neil
