R1100s Carbon Fiber fading
The finish on the carbon fiber on my 2001 R1100S light gas tank is fading. I've tried buffing it out with no luck. Does anyone have any idea what can be done about this? Thanks, John

If the clear coat is gone, the only option would be to shoot it again, then wet sand with VERY fine grit. Then buff it with your favorite compound.I've painted a few bikes with varying degrees of success(no paint booth). You should get some quotes at local paint shops.Good luck.

jet,
I have some fading spots and still had the clear coat which i hid using a couple coats of wax. On my now defunked 03 I ended up sanding and shooting a clear coat on it. It looked great. But beware, sand with a 600-800 grit and just smooth surface. If you sand to deep then the carbon fiber cores will widen. It will show but only if you look close. jeff
