Not sure if the 6,000 miles service improved things
 

I just had my 6,000 mile service done on my R12S. I've had it up in the mountains today and I think my bike may be running worse than it was.

Overall, it feels just as strong as it always did, but before I had a definite "kick" at about 5 1/2 to 6 thousand revs. That seems to have gone now.

I'm thinking one of two things has happened. Either the bike is running much smoother and therefore ironed out the quite hard "kick" when it "came on cam", or it's just lost some power.

Have any of you guys experienced this? As I say, it seems to be running very well, but before, when it hit that rev range, you couldn't keep the front wheel on the ground. This isn't happening now :confused:.

Maybe they also did the system software change.

Yes, I wondered whether the mapping had been changed. I'll give them a call tomorrow to ask.

There was a specific reason why it wasn't taken to BMW Atlanta for service. Can't remember why, as it was a friend of mine that made the decision.

Having spoken to that friend today (he has a lot of experience with BMW bikes), he confirmed what I was thinking - that what's happening is the bike is now much smoother so it's ironed out that "surge" of power because it's spread more evenly now. It's not so much that it's lost power at the top, than it's got rid of the weak spot before it. That tallies with my feeling that the bike is running very well overall. He says his GS does exactly the same thing on a service.

I can still feel the power band in fourth gear, whereas before, I could feel it very strongly in first and second - and not so much in the higher gears.

Actually, I got it wrong. Blue Moon is in Norcross.

I ask because my bike has the 5500 rpm surge. Like it has an afterburner. So what's the deal here Bobby?

You have a surge of power and you're complaining? after all the money folks spend to get that surge? lol Dunno, i'd have to ride it and see for myself. Very very few bikes have impeccably smooth yet high performance results. Every boxer seems to have an ever so slightly different character to them, less difference across the board then there used to be with the older oilheads though.

Not complaining....just wanna know what the deal is. You're supposed to know and tell me...remember?
