OT: TrackdayMag.com: the Crash Issue...
Sorry if some consider this post spam, that's not my intent... I'm just really proud of the latest issue of TrackdayMag.com and the article I wrote, "Coming Back From The Big One". I think it's the bestest thing I've ever written. Cheers,
Lance |
I really loved your story. It's more about the human nature than it is about riding and I think it's really well written (not that I'm an expert).

Great story, Lance!

A Jean-Jacques Rousseau? I don't think so.
Maybe a St Augustine? Now wouldn't that just be a scream. |
Very good article Lance! Glad things are coming together for you on the east coast.
The jump at Grattan got me this past June.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1189126690.jpg I sort of remember being scooped into the ambulance and sort remember being in Xray in grand rapids. I feel very fortunate that was all that happened. Two days later another rider crashed in a similar way and subsequently passed away. http://www.nesba.com/TrackTalk/bb/Forum8/HTML/003716.html I was back at Grattan that afternoon and enjoying a cold beverage and enjoying the abuse from the NESB ians. They were pretty happy I was alive too. I was kind of surprised by how much it did not hurt. I did not even bother to get the prescription filled. My summer was no where near as bad as Lance's. I used my vacation time to heal. My healing was not going well. The bones stayed widely displaced and I got yelled at by my doctors for not "resting" it. Wait another few weeks and check again... same deal.. My family doc refers me to a ortho.. more Xrays and more waiting. I explain to the doc that is does not hurt that much and there is no way I am missing Barber. The surgeon tells me to crash on my right side if at all possible and we will check again when I get back 8/4 weekend I ride for the first time again at Mid America Motorsports Park. I love this track and so does my 250. I just need some help getting into and out of my leathers. I jump back to attack mode ASAP. My broken collar bone does not hurt much but I am not moving on the bike as smooth and as fast I should. It was great to back out riding again with my friends. 8/18-19 Barber... first time there OMG what a track! It is Hot, Alabama in August HOT My 250 is well suited to Barber. I rode pretty well and was able to run laps in I group faster than my brother was turning in A with his SV650. 8/29 I get my super cool Ti bracing installed. This hurts more than the initial break. I go to see the surgeon tomorrow 9/7 to see how it is going and how soon they will let me go back to work. It still really hurts a lot and I have not ridden since the surgery. Job, money, girlfriend pfffft who cares. It is more than a affair |
Excellent Lance!
Glad your back! OR getting there! |
Excellent writing, it reads so well i felt i was there with you.
also tells me of how to come back to enjoy my riding, track day on the 24th, Buttonwillow thanks for both. ingmar. |
Ouch, Ax... looking at your picture brings back unpleasant memories... here's mine:http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1189135096.jpg
my post-op x-rays, courtesy of Dr. Steve Carlton: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1189135164.jpg so, are you in the brake before the hump camp, or the brake after the hump? you can really get guys good on the brakes going into 5. hope you heal fast. Cheers, Lance |
Thanks guys!SmileWavy

wussies check up early Funny thing (or not so funny) On the ride home I got to contemplate dying from that crash.. it would have been really lame. Good news, I did not see guys with pitch forks waiting for me. Bad news, no 72 virgins either. I just remember seeing bikes ahead of me and thinking I got them. Then nothing.. until the ambulance sort of. In a weird way it has made me less afraid to throw it in and see what happens. Could just be me |

nope. I'm the same way, too. What's the deal with Dutch & what's stuck up his butt? |

dunno, never met him. I guess it is a east coast thing. We have Garth which can be very funny at times. It is very hard to communicate the weird coolness and humor on the interwebs so he is often misinterpreted too. I would say don't place too much stock in the web BS. ride fast and take chances!:D |
Well written, Lance. I was hoping for a happy ending. As they say, moderation in all things.
|
I guess I'll keep saying how good life is, what a rollercoaster ride you've been on. Glad the pieces are coming back together.
