O.T. but cool-UFO video

Any of you computer animation or cgi gurus seen the Haiti UFO video on YouTube?I'm sure it's fake, but DAMN well made.I'm clueless when it comes to video and animation, how difficult would this be to pull off at home?

Yes, cool video. Several identical palm trees give it away quickly as a fake. Many believe the reason it looks so good may be due to the fact that it was made by a game company or film studio for viral marketing. If it is non-pro work it is a really good calling card. Compared to the other fake UFO vids on YouTube this is a masterpiece. The shaky cam and zooms are very well executed.

I agree. My first thought was that a major film company used this clip as a teaser for film coming soon.If a amateur did this, please identify yourself, you are the next Sci-fi great!!

That's pretty good compositing job, if you ask me, but as far as the work goes, it's possible for one person with the right know-how and tools to do it.

My estimate is that only the UFO is 3D, while the rest is shot with the camera. If everything else is 3D, then it would mean a lot more work, because it's photorealistic. The UFO itself doesn't have to be very photorealistic because it's not something you can see every day.

The palm trees for sure are CG. For many new school animators doing it all CG would be easier than shooting and compositing. Helps it look better, smoother, more realistic when not combining unlike elements and lighting.

I do a lot of 3D and compositing, and I don't agree that shooting and compositing is more difficult than making a photorealistic scene with pure 3D. There's lots of good tracking programs out there as well.

But, chances are that the scenery is also CG, so plenty of work for just one person. Like I said, it would take more time and effort to recreate this scenery than the UFOs themselves.

If the video was of better quality it would be easier to decide. This way I'm just not sure.
