beautiful! if i didn't know from experience that really used dirt bikes end up getting trashed beyond means, i would snap one up in a second. this is a case where a cheap used J-bike is probably a better choice, but if you like "brand consistency" and need this to round out the car and street bike, then the choice is simple, but expen$ive!

I think I read that BMW bought Husquvarna recently. Looks like they're getting very serious about Motocross. Do I really want another dirtbike? Hhmmmm??!!

Yes, BMW bought Husquvarna. But I don't know if you want a dirt bike with BMW's name on it. The price will be out of the roof compared to others.

FIRST, let's see if they're any good. It LOOKS good, but remember cannondale...so did they, and see where that one went.
Dirt bikes are a real tough space to play in, but who knows.
The gold standard IS pretty much KTM, Husqvarna and Husaberg, so it should be in good company.
I like the idea of EFI, I hope it works.

Cannondale's problem was they were too ahead of their time. They were fantastic bikes that needed more testing.

This looks good, but I'd rather have a Husky.

Suzuki is coming out with EFI this year too.

This may sound odd, but I'd worry that the build quality expected of a BMW would be too high for a full-on dirt bike. Hopefully the panels likely to get crunched, for example, have been made so they are not overly expensive (is that side number plate a $20 part or a $100 part?).

the following is a press release sent to me by an employee of Husqvarna

-----------
Husqvarna has signed a license agreement with BMW of Germany regarding the use of the Husqvarna brand for motorcycles. The agreement was signed in connection with BMW’s acquisition of the motorcycle-operation from MV Augusta of Italy, which has now been finalized.
The license agreement stipulates that BMW has the right to use the Husqvarna brand for motorcycles as well as related products and services.

Husqvarna manufactured motorcycles from 1903 until 1987. The operation was then sold to Cagiva of Italy, which is part of MV Augusta. Husqvarna is one of the world’s oldest and most renowned motorcycle brands, with a large number of world championships in Enduro and motocross.
---------------

looks interesting, especially now that i just picked up a f650 for bashing around dirt and fire roads etc.
