1998 R11S Dead Stock "STILLS PULLS" 140-145 With Ease.

With all the talk over time...... of pipes, chips, cams, valves, inducts, wheels, brakes, lubricants, fuel regulators, timing changes, plugs, tires, shocks, pistons, rods, injection maps, R12S units, R12S HP2 units..................and the like............one nice thing remains that we should never forget or overlook.

Out this past Sunday on my dead stock R11S which I bought new in early fall of 1998...............I was thrilled to see that it still will run up to a indicated 140 to 145 where road conditions allowed. I did this several times seeing a indicated 145 one time on a local favorite straight over near Dixie, Ga..

My bike is a non ABS with wide rear wheel, factory sport shocks, factory belly pan, and fresh tires. It still has its original type everything including pipes, carbon canister, chip, and air filter. I do use synthetic oils thru-out however.

A ten year old BMW with 35,000 miles on it that will STILL run that fast is a great testimony to BMW, their designers, and us riders. Keep um rolling, R11S'es for ever!

ALL RIGHT. I'LL KEEP IT, ALREADY.

Actually, a big thanks because I do go back and forth in my mind about moving on to the 1200S. So far it has been fairly easy to keep the 1200S Devil on my left shoulder quiet since my 1100S Angel keeps telling me that I do ride two-up and I need the barbacks and I do like the center stand. And I'd take a bath on selling my 2004 1100s.

And then someone posts a shot of a new black 1200s and it starts all over again.

Thumbs up

Who would possibly believe that any of these guys would be capable of riding a motorcycle at an indicated 145mph on a public road?

I love my R1100SA, it's an excellent sports tourer, that makes a very good sport bike and we saw what it could do in N8 and Brian's hands, not to mention that I have seen the Dr. in action, well ok he was out of sight in less than 2 minutes, of course I was on my RT back then We could switched bikes and he still would have whooped me.

What a train of trouble when that groups stretches it out..........

Thank you Dee, so much, for posting it. Lets all do it again soon. Once you play, like we did that day, together while riding close.........we all remain brothers forever after.

Looks more like the Bowery Boys. The R11S is built like the Douglas C-47. It will still be around when the other bikes are all parted out.

So, Dr. Curve, where did you guys stash the Gold Wings?

Mine's got 45k miles and was still pulling at 145 indicated, but who cares? If top speed was so important to me, I'd get a busa. Anybody can open the throttle in a straight line. The fun starts when the road does /\/\/\/\ The more and the more technical the better.

Well, I don't think theres more than a half mile of straight road in them there North Georgia mountains. So some of them good ole boys do find it necessary to use there sidewalls. I seen um do it.

They just ain't straight line riders. By the way, how do you think the good Dr. acquired the name DR. Curve? Anyway whats wrong with let um run every now and again?

...I concur...I think...after reverse-building my '01 SA (sans exhaust/chip/SJ filter/Lennie's Induct/Ohlins) I was pleasantly surprised how strong it ran in stock form.
Though I didn't check the top speed it easily continued to pull after an "indicated" 120+...nice bike!

When the bike was new (post 600 mile service) I did an indicated 137 ....with the bags..

I personally like curves more than 45 degree corners...

Where in Holland do you live? I was born and raised in Aachen... used to ride the Eiffel and such... loved it... always was scared to ride in Holland because of the stringent watchdogs and the price tags for speeders in the 70's and early 80's... so I don't know to much over there...

Used to go to Scharendijke/Renesse to windsurf in the early 80's a lot... that was always fun.

Ralf, you are the diplomat aren't you. Dee, don't forget about us twisted misters over in western North Carolina.

If you don't like going straight that desn't mean you're a gay biker--do it?

Curve, Seems we've heard very little about your R12S since you've had it. Was the HP Sport more of what you were expecting when you picked up the 12S? Just curious.

Glad your R1100S still runs Hot DR!

I gave up after being passed by my riding Buddy on his ZX11 (when I just happened to get the jump on him up to an indicated 135 MPH)...he passed me like I was his Grandma.

All the top speed stuff really means to me is that I've got reserve power for passing slower traffic...it's enough.

Going fast in the curves has always been more thrilling to me anyway, especially when I can easily keep that ZX11 in my mirrors. He even ran off the road once and cracked a few ribs trying to keep up...poor Guy. Fortunately he wasn't too banged up to ride it back home. His Dad took him to the Hospital the next day where the X-Rays revealed the cracks.
