East county is burning!

...almost to the day at the 4th anyversary of the so called "Cedar Fire", San Diego County is being ravaged again by TWO fires with much more potential than what the Cedar fire had to offer...

We had to turn around on our ride this morning, as the roads where closed and the Firefighters were out in force... it looks bad, we already have 1 fatality and many injured fire fighters... it's sad.

The whole thing is even more difficult, as we have Santa Anna winds that are in the range of 60 MPH in gusts... IT LOOKS VERY BAD, smoke and ashes blanket almost the entire San Diego County... coastal areas included... that is where the lack of Rain comes in... everything is dry as a bone!

It does not look like the winds are going to lay down until mid week... I am shivering, thinking what is going on out there... I have tried to call a friend who lives in the area to see if he needs help, no answer... MANY, MANY house, Farms, Animals and People are in danger and distress...

Enjoy the rain, if you have it... we'd give anything right now for a good amount of rain!

This kind of stuff put everything else in perspective again...

There's 3 up here too: Malibu, Moorpark and Canyon Country. Winds are really strong so they will likely burn for days. It was almost dark here at 3 this afternoon from the smoke.

we just lost 250,000 acres up here in a county park. fire season sucks!

We were just getting ready for our Sunday ride up to the Bean at Malibu and then the canyons when my buddy who lives up there called early to say don't come.
Seems like there's a lot of California burning today. Fortunately, the news is reporting no one hurt so far in the LA Area.

On another motorcycle forum I go to, a guy living in Santa Anna is talking about it too, he even posted a couple pictures... Heres one.

Thats all smoke from the fire. Its made day, into night.

John, we have 9!!! fires here now, covering pretty much all of SD county... people are desperatly trying to evacuate towards the coast... firefighter are helpless and have to watch as the high winds are driving the fires into densly populated areas...

Interstates are being closed right now and MANDATORY evacuation orders are in place for large areas right now...

RON, IT IS NOT GOOD... this is about the worst I have seen here in my 13 years in San Diego... a change in the weather pattern is not in sight... they are hoping for the eastern winds to slow down tonight, but they are likely to sustain into the later parts of the week...

I am getting calls from friends looking for places to stay and I can not get a hold of others who are being affected... looks like it's going to be crowded at my place!

...we drove from Irvine to Acton yesterday and I decided to come over the Crest to avoid the 5/14 intechange...manI'm glad we did.
As soon as we got on the leeward side of the mountain we could see the smoke which I calculated to be Agua Dulce. Turns out I was right. Two hours later the Irvine fire started and the Agua Dulce fire had spread across 10,000 acres to Saugus.
These winds are freekin' awesome.

Well, if it's negative, it's not really growth

I have a close friend in San Diego and the fires are really close to her. I feel compelled to play knight in shining armor and go rescue her, but it might do more harm than good.

A good friend of mine just called me... he and his family have been evacuated from their home in Poway.

YES, we have over 250000 people evacuated right now... more to come on an hourly basis!

There is no telling as to the size of the fires, the wind and the fires are keeping planes and Helos down... by now, the whole area north of HWY 56 is being upgraded to be evacuated ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE COASTAL AREAS! that's an area of 300 square miles!

Air is bad... traffic is horrible, as everyione is trying to leave at the same time and major arteries are closed to traffic to begin with!

I have 3 familes with kids that may have to come to my place, the boat or some of my neighbors... I am in a corridor that is not affected as of yet... a nightmare would be a severe understatement!

Good Grief! I am so sorry to hear about your misfortune. I hope everyone comes through OK and no lives are lost.

There was a segment on 60 Minutes last night about how the fire patterns are much more severe in the past 10 years or so than in any time in recorded history. Sounded like some interesting politics about fires. One point they made was that the Forest Service policy during the past many years of putting out all fires totally and as quickly as possible has led to the build up of a tremendous amount of fuel. Couple that with the climate change and the fire crew members, the "hotshots", were alarmed about what the future holds. Scary stuff for sure.
