And yet another introducing myself thread

SmileWavy

After seeing all the recent posts from people introducing themselves, I thought I should do the same. I've posted here a few times in the last year (and many thanks to those that answered some of my n00b questions) never said "hello". Guess I'm not so good at protocols. So here goes...

New to BMWs but not bikes. I rode a fair bit for 18 years, logging maybe 200k miles on various Japanese multis. Sold my 1989 Yamaha FZR1000 in 1997 after putting 60k miles on the clock, to help finance a startup. Mistake. The startup failed and I was out of a bike. Kids & life intervened for 9 years. My wife, bless her Dutch heart, started pestering me to scratch the itch again in the summer of 2006. I'm not sure how I got interested in (a) BMWs' and (b) the R1100S, but I wound up buying a salvage-titled 2002 Prep last fall. Wish I'd found this forum first; I probably would have passed on it in favor of a newer one, but oh well. It only had 6k miles on it, and makes happy BMW sounds. Especially with Rapid's Vanderlinde pipe on it. It's the least-powerful streetbike I've ever owned but I'm happier with it than any of the others. And this board is

Pics are a year old, I've added a few farkles since then. First was a couple of days post-purchase, second was at the end of its first big outing.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1194571666.jpg

Most enjoyable. As usual my time was not my own, but I'm not complaining- my in-laws paid for all our travel while we were there. In-laws had their big 50th party, I didn't drink too much, oh, no. Did the family thing, staying in a big farm house in Blesdijke. Went canoing in Ossenzijl. Visited the deportation camp in Westerbork (always gutwrenching). Wandered around the village of Urk. Then off to Denmark to drink... er, visit, with my side of the family.

RoLoo 11-11-2007 02:40 AM

...Westerbork...
...the beginning of the end for a lot...

...only some 30 miles from where I live...

...BTW ; Urk...
...a lot of tragedy also 'on' Urk...
...on the tablets all the names of those who never came back from the sea...

...the sea gives...
...the sea takes...

Hi Trex. Great screen name. For some reason it makes me want to go out and build a deck or something.

Nice pics, thanks. We stood at the same spot. My wife got several photos in the area (she's the camera whiz, not me) but none from that viewpoint. Sobering place.

...went canoing in Ossenzijl...

...about 12 miles from my home...
...next time we'll have coffee... :)

...BTW ; for those how maybe noticed that the houses in picture #1 are beneath sealevel, those are right. They built these houses on the bottom of the former Zuiderzee...

...in the old days Urk was an island, and that's the reason we still say "on Urk"...
