What else to replace during clutch fix?
I have seen the dreaded oil leak on the engine/tranny joint for several months.
Yesterday the clutch slipped while passing someone at high speed. Looks like it is time for a clutch friction disk + oil seal. I'm assuming it is the trans input seal that has gone bad, but will not know until I tear into it this weekend. While I have the bike apart, what is the wisdom on other stuff to replace? I would rather throw some $$ into parts replacement early than have to go back later. this is my '99 1100S with 13K miles. Thanks guys. |

Thanks for the link Paul. I searched the archives, but somehow missed your thread. I guess it is all in the keywords chosen.
I'm curious why you decided not to replace the slave cylinder. My understanding is that heat kills the o-rings and leads to failure. I didn't think that fluid changes would prevent that failure mode. I already put a new clutch master cylinder in this bike. The tranny main seal looks like it is gone. I'm starting to think the seals are worn out because of time instead of miles. Did you consider a pre-emptive engine rear main seal replacement? |
