Gas tank sucks

Took a mental health day and went for a ride to Hetch Hetchy (the other Yosemite valley). Every time I gassed up the filler cap was held down by vacuum as though the tank wasn't venting properly. Ran fine the whole time. I haven't had the thing apart for awhile so I doubt it's a pinched hose. I still have the cannister although it was relocated years ago. Are there any other parts that might fail or plug enough to cause this? Here are a couple of pics of the reservoir:

There are 2 vents on your bike, one inside the tank that used to have a line going to the cannister and a vent line outside the tank but inside the gas flap that drains overflow fuel.
If you're getting a vacuum in the tank, it's the line that went to the cannister. I'd start at that end of the hose. I'd open the gas flap and blow into the line and see if it's clogged. And hope that it's not inside the tank....

My bike does the same thing. Any detriment to having not vent properly? Bike seems to run fine (except an occasional low idle (<1k) stumble.

If it's a true vacuum problem, it could easily suck the sides of the tank in. Afterall, the tank is alum-i-num, or is that al-u-many-um....

As if it wasn't small enough already... Seems like it could potentially starve the injection system, too. I'm due for the major service so I'll have it off for a new fuel filter.

twin, if you're going into the tank you might want to consider moving the filter outside the tank. I mounted mine under the right throttle body. That way I can chance the filter when I do my once-a-year-change-everything maintenance.

It sucks... but it doesn't suck that much.

Jduke, I think there are a few posts on that relocation. I'll check it out. In the mean time, Ozzies BMW says the cannister could be plugged. I haven't heard of this happening but it could be time to -ectomy it.

Sergio,
It does suck that much. I saw it happen on an FJR 1300 once.

Many of bike that have fuel issues end up being either a magnetic tank bag keeping the vent from venting or the vent is clogged. It WILL suck that much. Maybe not suck the tank in much, but definitely starve the FI.

I had this happen on my R1200ST. Couldn't figure out why the plastic kept going out of alignment. Sometimes the seam was off by 1/4 inch. Took it to the dealer and they had to replace the tank which had collapsed.
