I'm young so I pay much more than the average BMW owner, but in any case I'm currently paying about $1500/year for full coverage on an R1100s, G650X Challenge, K1200R, and Aprilia SR-50 scooter. It would be half that if I didn't get collision coverage for them.

The Insurance in Sweden is, when it comes to BMW's, almost always fully insured, and as follows:
Sports bikes, (HP2 bikes, R1200S, K1200S etc.) Large city, $ 1,891. Countryside, small city, $1,230. Touring bikes, (RT, LT, GS) $415 +/- $100 depending on bike. After your 35'th birthday you pay between $100 - $400 less depending on the bike, more reduction with the sports bikes. This might seem like a lot, but it's considered cheap! A KTM RC8 would be somewhere between $5000 - $10 000 annully, NOT fully insured. A new Yamaha R1 is somewhere between $300 - $400 a month, not fullt insured. /J Last edited by Jonas The Swede; 05-13-2008 at 01:37 PM.. |

Full race bikes here in the states aren't quite as bad, but they're not good that's for sure! I had a friend (under 30) get quoted $4800/year for full coverage on his new GSX-R 1000 (full coverage is required on financed bikes). So it can be pretty tough here too, but the models are fuzzy. For instance I was quoted $4000/year for full coverage on a 1996 Kawasaki ZX-11 Ninja... I had bought the bike for $3,800?!?! Whatever. Then I replaced that with a brand new R1100S worth $15,000+ and I only paid $1,100/year for full coverage. Then I tacked on a brand new K1200R for an extra $371/year additional. That's actually part of the reason why I ride BMWs in the states... the price to insure is way less than similar performance japanese death cycles. Easily offsets the higher entry fee for the BMW.

I pay about $1000/year right now for full... Bike just got paid off, so I will be shopping around, and might drop some of the coverage down...
The #1 thing to do, is SHOP around as much as possible. I got quoted something like $4500 for the R1100S when I got it... That was from Progressive... They wanted closer to $6500 if I had gotten an 04 vs the 99... I think I paid $160ish a year for my K100RS, that was with a brand new motorcycle license ![]() Matt

Here in Adelaide, Sth Australia I pay $850.00 annually to BMW Finance/Insurance for full comprehensive. I am 40+ and have never made a claim so have Class 1 premium. Is a bit pricy I know but I have researched cheaper insurance and the BMW group provides those little extra things in the deal that make it more attractive, such as free retrieval of broken/damaged bike wherever you are, subsidised hire of car while bike being repaired, subsidised accomodation costs if remote from home, etc.
Cheers Andrew

What makes me laugh hysterically is that my insurance company (I won't tell you so someone don' rat me out) actually insures my KTM for liability and UI.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! for $75.00 a year. When I insured it I thought for sure the VIN would get kicked back, but the title says 'cyc' instead of 'orv' so I'm golden. I own all my toys outright so I don't buy full coverage. I figure if I biff it I blame me. If someone runs into me, I know a good lawyer. I have OG biker friends if it's an unlicensed uninsured illegal ![]()

$890 is annual rate for R1200S, liability only (legaly required for registration).
Full coverage adds at least $2000 to that, but i'm not sure how much exactly because i didn't take it. I don't know how this works in the world, but in Croatia full coverage for a motorbike is on average at least as twice as expensive then the full coverage for a car. Bikes are still officialy considered a luxury. Good news is that if you own something like an R1, the insurance would actually be almost the same or even less then for R1200S, so the situation is not as bad as in Sweden I guess. ![]()
