				maiden voyage screwed!

Well guys I went to pick up my Dads 2001 R1100S as he is recovering from cancer and can no longer ride. I had a great weekend with it in the Santa Ana mountains I am truly impressed with this bike. It ran great after having sat for a year untouched. I changed the fuel put a new battery in and checked the oil I wanted to have it serviced but my Pop said nah just ride it it's fine and so it seemed until departure day ( back to Santa Cruz ) I was on five south just past Irvine and she began to surge really bad so I limped into a service station to have a look. Two rubber lines ( like fuel line) were hanging down next to the drive shaft and you could here a vaccum leak coming from the front of the bike. Also the canister located under the tail on the right side of the bike was missing a line. I called Irv Seaver BMW in Orange and told them about the canister they said that is a carbon condensor and it would cause the bike to surge if it's left out of the loop. Id like to try and fix it myself the next time Im down if it's just that line but I need your help! there are two line that run to the back of the unit and one out in front. The one in front is disconnected but the two in the rear are plugged in. Where do these lines go and what are the two lines that are clipped together that are now hanging did they couple with this condensor unit? I thought they might be fuel overflow and maybe battery venting? Im a great ridder but a terrible tech any help would be great | ||

If the bike sat for a year, I'd suspect the fuel injectors are clogged. The two rubber hoses are supposed to be there. One is the fuel tank overfill, the other is the vent from the canister. The canister is supposed to have a port without a hose, so nothing is missing. Question: Is the gas cap hard to open? Does it make a sucking sound? If so, the canister is clogged. Here's a link to removing it: http://ibmwr.org/r-tech/oilheads/canniste.jpg You need to do more troubleshooting. I would not remove the canister until you solve the problem. Otherwise, you are injecting another variable into the troubleshooting equation. If you are hearing a vac leak from the front, the only place it could be coming from is one of the throttlebodies. If a hose has fallen off, it plugs into the bottom on the throttlebody.
