Thruxton for a stable mate
I took my 12s in on Friday morning to have the front shock replaced and the updated metal ring placed on the rear shock. I had to leave it with the dealer as they were not able to get it done that day. The dealership also sells Triumphs and as I was leaving I went over and sat on one of the Thruxtons. I really like the old school look and the seat/peg/bar relationship felt great to me. I was wondering if anyone here owns or has owned a Thruxton, and if so, wouldn't mind giving me their thoughts on the bike. I thought it would make a great second bike, especially on days like this when my "S" is down for service.

I've got a black 04 Thruxton with TORs on it. I absolutely love that thing. Not for an all arounder mind you, but for the reason you've mentioned. A perfect little second bike (actually it's number 11 but who's counting).
It's sort of a plan-ahead-bike. You got to give it room to get up to any real speed, and of course, also to stop it. But it rails on track days and is fun to scoot around town on. You'll definitely start up more conversations that begin with "hey! I had one of those back in 196X". They you say, "no....no....this is actually a new one" or lie and tell em it's a perfect example of an original Thrux you found in a barn in Central Park. Best, Kjazzz

Frank, the 2009s should have fuel injection. If that matters too you.
Also, check BritishCustoms.com and NewBonneville.com for aftermarket goodies. If you question the riding position but still like the Bonneville platform, consider a T100. It's very close (engine wise) but a bit more upright position. kjazzz

I like that bike a lot. From what I've heard, the weight on the clipons is fairly brutal. A friend of mine has one and put on some handlebars. My understanding is the accessory exhaust is well worth it, too.

Doesn't it look like a Bonneville with regular bars on it?

Pretty much! Of course you'll have the Thruxton paint scheme and name etc. There may be a few cosmetic touches that a Thrux will have that differ from the T100 (i.e. painted fenders) or the straight Bonnie. The suspension is likely to differ just a bit too.
There's a lot of info on the forum at: triumphrat.net to check out. I haven't been there in a while (I was banned for being a bad boy in the Speed Triple forum: apparenly they dont tolerate hooligans in the hooligan forum: go figure) but keep us posted if you get one!
