Arivoca AZ and Kit Peak
My friend Mike and I went on a short ride today, 333 miles according to my trip meter. I did not take a lot of pictures but here are a few I like.
First we had a snack in Arivaca AZ, it is southwest of Tucson, and Arivaca Road is usually pretty fun, today is was dirty from recent rain storms. This is the picture of the Cantina where we stopped. They boast that they are the oldest bar in AZ, but the girl working the bar said it was being disputed by other establishments in the state. I had a Ginger Ale and some chips. It was hot today, over 100F I am sure. From Arivoca we decided to ride over to Kit Peak road. It is a very nice road up to the Kit Peak National Observatory, there is more info on the observatory here. http://www.noao.edu/kpno/ Here are pictures going up and on the mountain. The ride home was uneventful with the exception of a very near hit with a deer. Not sure what the deer’s hurry was but I was tooling along a nice straight about 80 and the deer came out of the bushes on the left side of the road, crossed right in front of me at about Mach II, and disappeared in the bushes on the right side. I say I missed it by no more than a foot, I did not even have time to react. It was a small deer, but would have hurt.

Brian,
You know my advice, go for it! I think multiple motorcycles is the way to go. Then pick the tool for the job that day. However it gets complicated when one plans a trip like you have planned. 700 street and dirt road miles to your destination, then a week of trail riding, then 700 miles home. Have you got a gel seat on the DR, bicycle pants, and a bottle of Motrin? Kit Peak is sweet, I have not been up there in a few years, Steve who runs the Ducati shop in Tucson used to have a Christmas Party up there.
