Don't need stinking frame sliders ...

Well, finally have pics from my crash last month. First pic of crash is after I'd already lowsided and pushed away from the bike. It slide for a bit on the head, then caught the tire and did its own solo-high-side - hence the first crash pic.

First the good part of the day ...

Then the bad ...

And would you believe only $600 in parts. Not including the cost of the 2x4 used to bend the frame back into shape ... or the welder's fees ... or the cost of the new helmet ...

RoLoo 07-04-2008 10:48 PM

...well ; those guys in the back don't seem to care...

Steve Carlton 07-04-2008 10:51 PM

That's quite a ride report.

...fly report... ;)

Wow... I can't believe the windscreen held up to the impact from shot #5...! Only $600... you must've heard the cash register start ringing when the tire snapped it up out of its slide!

AZ-Twin 07-05-2008 07:31 AM

Ouch,

Glad you were okay and the bike was easily fixable.

shreddr 07-05-2008 08:37 AM

are the first 2 pictures, the beginning of the end, or just ride pictures? it doesn't look like you are sliding

hawkeyejohn14 07-05-2008 09:03 AM

Sorry about the git off

but I agree wth Ron, I noticed the guys in the tent next to the track are not even aware of a bike with out its rider flying down the track, could of taken any one of them out.....

I like the pic where the bike is sitting on it's left jug for a split second.

Again I am sorry:( this happened and thank you for sharing your misfortune and the great pics....

SergioK 07-05-2008 10:30 AM

I cringed looking at those pix. :(

wswartzwel 07-05-2008 02:40 PM

I wonder why we all cringe when we see the photos of the bike in mid air awaiting destruction... But the picture of the rider with only one leg visible stirs no emotions?

A few minutes before, but nope, not the actual slide. Buddy behind me had a video camera mounted on his bike, but sadly the batteries had vibrated loose and reset. Dang, would have been nice to see what happened in slow mo.

shreddr 07-05-2008 05:08 PM

what was the laundry list of parts you replaced? those crash pics and $600 dont seem to match up.

YellowRacer 07-05-2008 05:16 PM

Ohh man!!! Thats sucks... Ha ha.

hawkeyejohn14 07-05-2008 06:29 PM

I already knew the rider was ok, I did cringe at the photo but was afraid to comment for fear as being seen as a wussy by this group.:p

wswartzwel 07-05-2008 06:31 PM

You value this groups Opinion??? I never would have said that at least not out loud.... :D

No kidding. I'm amazed. Doing all my own labor helped, but still ... Needed to replace everything on the right clipon (including the clip on itself), except for the body of the brake cylinder, which was okay. Everything was stripped off of it, though, so needed new resevoir, etc. Levers (nice ones from Wunderlich) somehow lived through it. Steering stop mashed (still is). Incredibly, ALL the front fairing is intact and not even that scratched up - windscreen was ejected at some point (3rd flip?), headlight was fine, oil cooler happily hanging from a shattered support frame. The inner "hoop" fairing frames in the front - you know, the expsnive magnesium alloy ones - were busted into 6 pieces, but nothing a welder couldn't take care of (good thing, that's $1k easy). Bizarre that it broke so badly but the overlying fairing was fine. Some whipping action took place on one of the impacts, methinks. The RG puck on the rear drive shaft/swing arm joint saved me another $2k. Rizoma pegs ground a bit but fine.

Summary: I'm freaking lucky.

jeffchri 07-05-2008 07:05 PM

Oh yeah, triple clamp badly gouged but not in a structural way. And rear frame warped to the plastic "Pan" cracked in a few places ... but nothing some brute force couldn't fix later. And the new Akra Race system ... untouched. Just a bit, umm, off center still ...

captainasty 07-05-2008 07:22 PM

You might want to double check on the magnesium welding because that stuff just burns. Al-many-um is a different creature.SmileWavy
