eeek oil light flickering on way home!

after getting stuck in some major traffic temp went up to the little triangle, then oil light flicked on about 6 times over about a few mins once got moving and temp dropped didnt show again!

After recently changing my oil on weekend im putting it down to there not being enough oil in there as i didnt put in all 4 litres as i didnt want to over fill!
would that make sense? I will put in rest tommorow!

phew!

notice in your sig K1200R r.i.p,
I to have just laid to rest after 18 month the very same bike and plumped for exact same bike as you but in Shine Yellow

Spooky , but if like me are you along the same lines of thinking by saying ---what a bike we have changed to.

The joy of going round corners again (at speed)

Now what to buy to pimp it up and add performance any idea's ? Not a lot written on this subject on the net. Have oodles of cash after flogging acre's of carbon off the old K12R.

Keep in touch with tips and trick for this wonderful machine.

If you drained 4l out, you should have put 4l back in. Think of oil as the blood of an R259.

The oil light will come on when the 12S is about .6L low in my experience. That .6L will probably bring it near to the top of the red circle.

i was told that the oil idiot light has more to do with the pump status than fluid level. would have to be near empty to ahve an effect. so might be a wiring issue.

i think the manual says 3.7 quarts. but i always just dump 4 in. it burns oil for a few days. then reaches whatever natural state it's happy with, and hold til the next change.

It was over 3l but not 4l, oil is most important on an air/oil cooled engine thats for sure i was just worried about over filling! put in the rest today so 4l in there now and temp got high again and no oil light so it must have been low oil at high temps!

Thanks all seems well now i have topped it up with 4l so lets just hope it was to do with high temp and low level!

is that for R1100s? for R1200s it says 4l i was just scared of having to much and least this way i could top it up lol!

Did you change the filter? That could be where the missing oil was.
