Yup, we can thank all those riders in that 70% group.

I have to say I gotta agree with the law vs the 70 percenters...

the only number i could easily find said 72 l.a. county motorcycle deaths in 2003. i imagine the number has gone up since then. but i find it hard to believe that there were something like 40+ killed up there.

the video was posted two days ago. can't say when it actually aired. i was up at newcomb's last week. police presence was extreme. not even safe weekday mornings anymore.

watched it again. they said 70% of "highway" deaths. don't know if that includes surface streets. you'd think information like this would be easier to track down.

those guys (riders & cops alike) have always been there and they're always going to be there.

the numbers of squids are obviously up because of the gas prices.

horton nailed it: "lesser experienced guy trying to keep up with more experienced guys".
there's thousands of levels to that (eg: been riding 2 months vs. 3 weeks, or mat mladin vs. sergio).

on the brighter side, i'm seeing a lot of older bikes coming back out of the garage. saw an rd350, a cb honda something (with the ignition below the tank), and just caught the rear end of a kawasaki 2-stroke triple.

bestest, smartest thing is to stay off angeles. i used to live out there....you all know that there are other good roads in the neighborhood where you're not dodging as much shrapnel or radar...and they're not very far away...

I have seen this also, the other day I saw an old honda 750 Four like my dad had when I was little. I have seen a few other bikes from the late 70s early 80s but did not ID them.

At work the motorcycle lot is full. It is not just squids though, I also saw a woman riding a scooter the other day with an open faced helmet and a terrified look on her face. Not sure a bike is the best solution for everyone.

A couple of Saturday’s ago, yep wrong day to go to the Crest, but I had not been there for about a year and new when I got there to take it easy/be careful. However, while getting there I got a ticket on the less traveled/back route MT. EMMA RD. (75 in a 55).

We all know the Crest on the weekends is typically heavily patrolled by almost “zero tolerance” CHP/Police, but MT.EMMA ROAD? When issuing the ticket, the officer, who BTW said he rides a GSXR750 said that he was giving me the ticket to help me so I don’t endanger myself or others (how could that be on an approximate 2 mile straight stretch of road with no cars/motorcycles around), when he said that I about blew a fuse, but kept my cool, which I feel contributed to the ticket being reduced to 65.

Anyway, I could cry, snible and whine some more, but to combat this BS/harassment in the future I am getting my radar/laser system installed with proper custom made earphones and try to stick to my motto of only riding during the week, which helps eliminate unnecessary/tickets/squids/car clubs and the live free ride free gang.

sunday morning, i'm at home whining on a forum instead of out riding.

every few months the business owners in hollywood complain about the homeless and whores. the cops herd them ten blocks into west hollywood. a few months later the west hollywood cops herd them back. it has nothing to do with solving the issue. it's about moving it to where it's somebody else's problem.

the bull**** tickets for ten over are not about safety. they're about driving us to frazier park or ortega highway.

for as long as i can remember, ortega hwy has run a "daytime headlight test area", with official signs proclaiming such at both ends of the hwy.
although the "test" was concluded years ago, the signs are still up, and require that you turn on your highbeam for XX miles.

there are the unknowning guys who go up there without a headlight in their fairing and are usually pounced upon immediately.

could be worse. at one time they were micro-examining exhaust systems, since many of them were stamped "off-highway/race applications only". at least they gave up on that one.

i tend to shoot for weekday mid-mornings when possible. tuesdays seem fairly mellow.
a little common sense, a radar detector, and you at least lower the odds of a road-side signature.

ps: that makes sense sergio, since mladin doesn't know you exist either.

...drove the wifey up to the Crest for a hike yesterday...didn't know you needed an 'Adventure' pass to even park and hike now...
there where no less than 3 CHP bikes that I saw...2 were ticketing.
All in all it was a pretty mellow day traffic-wise, especially for a MotoGP Sunday at Newcombs...how 'bought that Casey Stoner!...
