Top Of The Rockies 2008

My riding friend Jerry and I left this morning for CO. We rode 680 miles in 100 degree heat.... Sitting in the same campsite in Clayton New Mexico and R111S and I had last year... Thankfully no windstorms blew my bike over..

One hundred degrees at 10:00 am

Lots of wind turbine blades on the highway today... Al'Gor should be happy!

Bumped into another S rider on his way to the rally... he is friends with Raven and Chris from CA. He is from Missouri...

My riding friend... The guy who got me interested in an R1100S Jerry.

I cooked up some rice/broccolli and Summer sausage for Supper... Yum.

I'm glad to see you're carrying a bit more gear. I don't think I could go that distance anymore.

Well Jim, I have been mountainbiking, and watching my diet for the last month to help..

Crossing Oklahoma is probably not the highlight of the trip.

Campground has petty good wifi and I was able to keep up to date in the tent.

Awoke this morning to 68 degrees and a cool breeze.... Birds were tweeting around my tent... very nice... Much better than being at work!!

Please don't take any more pictures of the oatmeal Bill. It's to early in the morning and I haven't had my coffee yet. Where did you RON last night. Do they build those fences so you don't have to hunt for a tree to go bebind? lol

Getting ready to leave for Nova Scotia next Thursday. Spent last night drilling the pop-rivets to swap the city lids for the fatboy lids. Couldn't find the correct rivets anywhere and BMW thinks they are gold. Need a source folks. Used ss 8/32 panhead screws and nylon selflocking nuts. Can't faind a decent hardware store since Wal-Mart, Lowes and Auto-Zone moved in.

The ride up from New Mexico to the Rally went well... except my low beam HID quit.. My Brother from AZ arrived about 30 minutes before Jerry and I got here... so far lots of board members are here.

RBMANN from Washington

Mundis

Jarhead rider from texas

GaryK who bought essing's bike this year.

alq2 and Raven from California.

Geothepencil, Motoring, and my brother. Brother is in dark grey tee shirt... on the far side of the table... Mary "motoring" is seated next to him, with George "geothepencil seated across from Mary.

Chris Gueting arrived late.. he rode from CA. did escalantes...monument valley??? and some other sight seeing along the way.

Raven and Tony were riding with him but elected to take a shorter route...

Tony "alq2" got into some glass and is getting a new tire today.

Dee Jones is here too but we were talking so much I forgot to get a picture....

Weather is perfect, and so far it is a wonderful rally.

Nice shots.

I'm on my way here to there pretty quick.

I am guessing there is some rain coming. It's overcast and I can smell it...

Yeah, nice rally. we are enjoying it quite a bit. Maybe for me because its a small town, it feels a lot better than Gillette.

Had a great ride today... Started out with Mundis and Harm, Bikerfish, Dee Jones, Chris Gueting, and my self... We had a great time playing on 92...

Then we rode to gunnison for lunch. And then headed to Crested Butte. Mundis and Harm split off to go elsewhere, we rode through the snow village and took a jeep trail up through Gothic until it got too rough to go any further.

Chris Made it as far as I did... then we turned back to warn the others.

We rode back to Crested Butte since the jeep road got too rough.

Bikerfish picked up a rock the size of a piece of a candycorn... Dee had an air compressor and plugs.. so we got him going.

Then we took a different gravel road from Crested Butte across Kebler pass.... lots of great video footage from that ride... I will post some videos when I get back home.... I forgot my fire wire.

We got back in time to see Craig Carr Arrive.... Let the party begin!!

Wow Bill!...looks like the TOR riding you did was great so far! Nice to see some familiar and new faces as well.

Our week (the reason I'm not there) was obviously different. We had a great time in New York....too much to say here but here's a blog posting from one of our team: http://nycmissiontrip2008.blogspot.com/

OK a few pics of MCs...man-oh-man if you can ride the streets of Manhattan and live to tell about it you've got lots more on the ball than most:

Here's an Enduro Rider near our Hotel (Marriott in Brooklyn):

Here's a Yamaha parked on 116th Street in Spanish Harlem. We did a week long VBS program for the neighborhood Children at a Spanish Baptist Church nearby. The Mexican Food we had for lunch was Awesome!

In the evenings we saw the rest of NY...here we were near the Rockefeller Plaza. There were many Law Enforcement People here with AR-15s in hand.

Lastly, we rode Kawasakis every day (Kaw Subway Cars that is):

Thanks for the fantastic photos of the Pelican Brothers and from Paonia. It sure brings back fond memories. I sure plan to be there next year. That Kebler pass ride is great fun.
