actually, i don't know why it's called "california" superbike school. they go to the big tracks all over the country:
pocono, thunderbolt, VIR, barber, infineon (sears point), vegas, laguna seca, mid-ohio and buttonwillow (streets of willow)

Hey Bubba, interested in doing the August 24th date? It's on a Saturday, we could ride over Friday, learn Saturday, then ride home Sunday.
Either that or VIR the first of September. I'm leaning towards using their bike, mostly so I don't have to worry about prepping the bike. |

...I have seen their brake and turn-in markers on several tracks before and I was a little frazzled, at best... don't get me wrong, there might be some concept behind it, but - being that I never participated - it is beyond me!
I have had one-on-one sessions with Lee Parks, Todd Eagan, Chuck Sorensen and Tom Montano... 4 riders, 4 different styles, but there is always a commonality... To get the info from someone who does this for a living and has the ability to convey that knowledge is invaluable, though... I experienced that first hand on Monday.... Russ, this might be roughly the time frame in which we are planning out next track day... we are also working on a school concept, but that will be somewhere down the road, not this year, I think!

ralf, that would be awesome!
looking at the school 'cause i need some more lessons on technique. but i'll wait for your next trackday if it will be around the same time. i think that day with N8 was priceless. let us know as soon as you know. a track school would be great and you wouldn't need to twist my arm to join!

My riding buds: dude and his dudette are amazing to watch and they have been at me for a while to do it. I have booked in and paid but it's not until November, so I did an equivalent course at another racetrack the other day. It was awesome and now when I come up to a corner I am setting myself up for it and trying to execute the things I have been taught, when I get it all right - feels great. Where-as before I would be thinking "what's this corner gonna do to me" Tiz the time for schooling, I have decided! I look forward to hearing about what you get from it! Sorry, I am a bit excited about the school thing! There's a fast lap (Philip Island) on camera at the Austalian site for the school here on the left side of the page. ![]() |

keith started his school at riverside raceway and originally planned to only stay in California, thus the name. when he expanded, he kept the "california" part...possibly because he's always been a showman of sorts.
eons ago, i got the call to come help break in a herd of kawasakis at riverside raceway for KC's first school. it was definitely a loonnngggg day going round n' round n' round. you'd ride one, pit, grab another, repeat until it was too dark to see. kc is many things (scientologist/former boot/shoe maker to stars like Elton John), and he runs a seriously good school. i haven't been in years, but i'm assuming it's still excellent. he was one of the first with the concept, and is probably still ahead of the pack. i'd go again, but: #1. can't afford it and #2. i probably have way too much "un-learning" to do and would just irritate the instructors with old/bad habits.

I did levels 1 & 2 at Barber last fall and will be doing 3 & 4 at VIR with 2 friends in September. I recommend doing levels 1 & 2 on the same weekend. The lessons really build on each other and it took me until the second day for it all to come together for me.

wise choice nail. even if it's just because you don't want to toss Ellen.
i've always believed that to get the best out of a track day, you should ride the smallest bike you can get along with. for me, it teaches me more on the little bike than on the bigger stuff. the tiniest blemish in your method turns into a giant volcano of obviousness on a small bike. probably why roger gets such a kick out of racing that little bike. that's where the real giggles are!

Hey Russ,
I'm up for going to the superbike school with you. I had been looking at the dates trying to figure out which one to go to. Was hoping to hold off until we hear from Ralf on what date(s) he's targeting for trackday #2 since I don't want to miss that! I took the level one class at laguna seca last year using their bike and it was awesome. Debating on doing the 2 day camp or two consecutive days, just to get more time to reenforce what i learn there. Would be cool if it were close to the date of Ralf's trackday just to get more practice while its all fresh. I haven't decided whether to us my bike or theirs next time. The kawa's were fun as hell though. But i'd be up for Streets of Willow, Infineon, or Laguna Seca. Keith

hey keith,
that's awesome! let's try and figure this out and i'd like to keep my schedule open for ralf as well. i'm up for SOW, infineon or laguna as well. my schedule's a bit of a crap shoot but if i plan ahead of time i can most likely swing it. laguna's chicane....Woah!

I've done the 2 Day (levels 1 & 2) Camp with an X for her birthday, and level 3 with my wife at at 1. I've even attended Codes notorious Wheelie Bike School on the Speed Triple. Ironically controlled mayhem. I like Codes Teaching shtick. He does too, but at the end of the day you've got to admire even enjoy a pioneer in the biz with proven antics that work. Best thing to do is as many classes, at as many schools as are noted for their authority on the subject as possible.
I'm looking at October for time on Code Kawasaki's and a day on the big track with the freshly revamped R11S. Can't recommend the classes enough, great instructors, solid course of instruction, tight 600's, and fun Code toys too.
