Just for fun, wondering what long-timers are riding, now that your old bones are getting too kinked riding an R11/R12S...
I mean, admit it, stuff doesn't work (ergonomically) like it use to. Oh, it's fun to go out a be sporty for a short day up to the Crest and back, but there's got to be an option for longer roads. Bikes you you'd like to have are acceptable... You already know what my one and only is these days. ![]() ![]()

Yep, that's my go to machine. I still have my '05. One day maybe I'll upgrade it to the new one.

Nope, it's an early production hexhead. Bought it used in 2010 with 27k on it... it's got 68k or so now.

If it's a long ride I take this ole gal out....usually. ( '94 RS. ) White Bird Hill in Idaho last September on the way back from Seattle to Park City, Utah. Smoke everywhere! There is normally a great view. I still have my S and ride it far on occasion, out to Iowa and back a few year ago.

I haven't outgrown my S or HP2 and although my 640 has a nice upright riding position, it takes me at least a day to get used to all the vibration.
Cheers

I still have my 98’ 1100S, but sadly it has been replaced by a 2007 Ducati ST3S. The 1100S will be for sale in the spring. I am doing fluids and a valve adjust before I sell it.

Do I remember you buying Signit's GS Sergio?
Dropa, I understand the old 640's are real paintmixers. Loved my 450EXC but if I can ever afford another bike it will be if some big thumper dualsport...waituing to see that new Yamaha 700 Rally Raid... Buzz, man, nothing wrong with that (RS) for the tour...

Well, I tried all of these
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() While settling on these: ![]() ![]() ![]() I thought I'd enjoy the Transalp but my riding style is a bit too agressive for that bike. Sold the white one, thought I missed it and then bought the red one. Nope, it's all the same, barely ride it. Still want to be upright on the longer trips hence the MV. Frankly though I don't think I'll ever outgrow clip-ons... Last edited by Tirefriar; 01-18-2018 at 06:42 AM.. |

My 2002 R1100S still fits me fine. But I do have a R1200GS to do different stuff with. Maybe some day I will part with the 1100S. I just don't see anything else out there that moves me emotionally like it does. I see old guys at rally's riding old air heads wondering why they don't get a newer better bike.... I fear I may be them someday.

...the old airheads are great, especially if you like to revive & wrench. I kinda feel like I'm over that now. But there may be one airhead in me some day when I get the time.
The new GS makes me feel like I've finally arrived...(at what... silver haired foolery? ).

That VFR image looks like one that SFarson would have taken.

I had forgotten that I could use the one from "garage" ![]() That's actually mine, before the Staintune upgrade

I remember when I had a garage full of bikes. Mostly common Japanese bikes though.
Now I am down to just two. I don't feel I've outgrown my S. I am just growing into it. But the S doesn't do everything so it needs a partner. ![]() |
