OT - Philip Island moto GP

Well, I am off to the GP after work tomorrow, I'll post up a little ride report and some "Island" GP pics for yaz, when I get back.

Some talk of the weather being cool and cloudy with occasionals, so Verm might have a go, hell...let the speculation begin.

I'll put a fiver on Casey, either to win or crash out trying.

325kms, she'll hardly get warmed up, though I will probably go down South through the southern bit from Eagle Point (Start) down directly near the coast and through Bengworden to Maffra (meeting mate at his place in Maffra)

I have to commute back and forth in the car, dammit, due to a stuffed arm. Should be fun, and I reckon that a pneu-Honda on French tyres with a Kentucky accent might take the Tim Tams.

Did they do the Barry Sheen ride this year? You are in the right place to go on it. Should be good racing even though the motogp title is settled.

Seems like the ride to the track is on Saturday morning, though I did not see any reference to Barry Sheene.
Just got back from the track, saw some nice 11s in the bike parks (who has the Boxer Cup with the For Sale sign on it?) and about a dozen heading towards the track when I was on the way back. Also a candystripe R12S was heading down there and plenty of sidecars. Plus, one funky looking 11s trike!
The BMW tent had some of the dirtbikes (might have been new models but I don't speak dirtbike) and an HP and some Ks. No sign of an S1000 or an HP 12.
Then it started to rain ...

Yeah - I hope casey wins too!! Go son!!

Casey was like your signature line, Rapid - a fast dog very difficult to catch, but seems like Rossi has worked it out, for now...

Have a good ride to the Island fellas! I wish I could make it this year, but alas, no.

As long as I live, I will not figure out the Melandri thing. Two years ago, he leapt out of the final corner, on stuffed wets on a greasy track and power-slid the Honda onto the straight riding WITH ONE HAND to take the win! Now, he is about as fast as a 250 in any given session.
The only similar case I can think of is Simon Crafar, who was a race winner on a Yamaha on Dunlops but who was a dud when the team switched to Michelins. I am not sure that having spec tyres will help things, I just hope they do something like SBK where the tyre suits a wide range of bikes and riding styles.
Looks like it is going to be fine and cool for Q today.

Melandri is pissed off because he was rumbled by Ducati testing the Kwaka without permission, so they have refused to release him. It would have looked bad if he went up the field if they allowed him to switch mid season.

FP3 on now, in fine conditions that should remain for the race, and Stoner leading the way.

Saw the same BCR in Cowes on Sat night. Lots of bikes on the streets but did not sany any other 11s or 12s.
BTW, Randy is tipping Hayden, for reason of Michelin and motivation. (ie, take that, HRC, and enjoy looking at my ass in 09)

The Barry Sheene ride is on every Thursday before the race weekend and there is also a Tribute night, dinner thingy on the Wednesday night too.

Police escorted to the track and for the group that pay up early, they get to do a lap of the track when they get there.

The punters were told "There will be no speed cameras for the entire ride"
This was met with applause and happy noises

Barry Sheen ride pics

Why a picture of the rain?

It rained for 2 1/2 hours of the trip on Friday and when we briefly stopped, guess what happened when I tried to start the bike?

EWS

So, now I know when mine was replaced before, it was replaced before the recall and I got another dodgy one.

Managed to get it going after leaving it for a while, but it changed our plans for the weekend. I had to leave for home on Sunday and ride in front of the missus, in case I couldn't get back on the fuel tank range, I didn't want to stop and get stuck somewhere, so I left early when she did. Ended up seeing the bloody race back at home thanks to EWS

Drove around the Island for a while...I love it there, it's wild and woolly country. This is outside the coffee shop waiting for roadside assistance to call me back.

They had one of these with a GP' ish sticker kit on it I'm an X Suzuki man and I gotta say I liked it.

All the pics taken of the track were terrible with the little camera, so I used my old 35mm camera (non digi), so hopefully I got a couple of shots and will post them...when I gets them back.

Nice pictures Jon. Bummer your EWS messed up the trip.

Thanks Rob

The pics I took with the 35mm non dig were put onto disc and they are poor to say the least...I will post one anyway I spose...got grain issues with them.

BTW - for responding you have won yourself a cool Casey Stoner stubbie holder, purchased at the GP weekend on the Island...PM me your address again, your last bit of paper with your address self destructed...

Some guy called Randy Mamola

Flat nakka (very fast) around the Island, two up coming down the straight probably in the region of 200 kmh I spose, could have been faster, I don't really know except it looked bloody fast... might not have been a bad pic with a telephoto, a steady hand and correct settings...lol
