About to be an R1200S, which to buy/need new boots

This is my first post here, so I am a genuine newbie. Please be friendly, as I am lost right now.

In a week or so, I am buying one of two R1200S's:

The Dealer has a new ('08) white aluminum metallic, ohlins, not sure about rear tire for an out-the-door price $2K above the price BMW is buying back my lemon-status '07 F800S. Friend has an '07 red/silver, with ohlins, wide rear tire, alarm, and Remus exhaust with 2-3K miles, and for a bit less than the price BMW is buying back my lemon-status '07 F800S. That lets me buy another Zumo (the BMW one is going with the F800S). I could also buy a nice extended warranty for the latter bike, but it would be tight for the new one. What to do?

Next, my lovely AlpineStar boots are dead, I need a new pair of plain black leather, rubber soled motorcycle boots. What do you wear?

I can't help you on your R1200S decisions but I was and am still interested in one of the last few F800S unfortunately collecting dust on dealers showrooms.
Kind of like the bike except for having the 2 cylinders in the wrong configuration...;-)
Lighter than the R1200S,great fuel economy,a little faster than the R1100S and still practical.What was wrong with yours?
Heared the first batch had pistons without a special coating that wore cylinders and liners prematurely but don't know from which build date they do have the upgraded pistons.Otherwise nice bike that F800S.Kind of the right bike for todays times...

The R1200S was only sold in the US as an '07. All the bikes with Ohlins I've seen or heard about also had the bigger rear wheel/tire, heated grips, and ABS. Some may have an alarm and/or onboard computer, but seems like very few. Being a slow-seller, you should be able to get a big discount off of a new one. The "loaded" used ones seem to sell for around $11,000. What is the MSRP and selling price (before tax & license) on the new one? What's the selling price of the used one? The new one will have a 3 year warranty; the used one from the time it was first sold. Not sure what kind of warranty you can get on the used one. How long do you plan on keeping the bike?

Boots-wise, I'd suggest looking at the Frey-Daytonas. I'm on my second pair, and they're extremely comfortable and last forever. I'm also a fan of Sidis. I wear the Daytonas most of the time and have the Sidi Vertigo Airs for hot days.

My F800S developed a ghostly, deadly electrical glitch, it would shut off all power while I was shifting from 1>2, 2>3, or 3>4, if I had ridden two hours prior. On an early September 500 mile loop ride around Arizona, after an initial gas fillup, it did so 3X (after it had done so a few times weeks prior) and the bike was towed 140 miles to where it is now.

BMW made my dealership jump through all kinds of different hoops trying to diagnose/fix it, and it could not be fixed w/o another electrical problem cropping up. In AZ, 4-like repair attempts or 30 days+ in the shop is a lemon. My F800S has not left the shop since its 9/14/08 towing from Morenci, AZ to Scottsdale. Stay away! 'nuff said.

Welcome to the board. Which dealership are you dealing with Euromotorsports (now Go AZ Motorcycles) in Scottsdale? I saw a silver R12S in there when I was having my 6K done a while back.

When you get the new bike home you will have a used one. If the used bike is as clean as you would like it to be, and you are happy with the warranty then I would go that route. There are some killer deals on used R1200S bikes these days.

Good luck. You may get fewer speeding tickets on the silver bike than the red/silver job.

I don't have the MSRP or the selling price of the new one. The dealer wants to "give it to me" at 17K out the door (after tax and license) based on my F800S issues.

The used one has 2 years left on warranty with 2-3K miles, and is $13750. It has Remus pipes and exhaust that take off 20 lbs or so and a rear seat cover, plus I get the back pillion, and a red front seat with the black on the bike now (it is the $590 red/silver paint job model, too). My dealer can sell me a Western States 7 year extended warranty on it; I had one now being paid back for by BMW on my F800S, and it was $999. www.qualitywarranties.com has its 7-yr premium one for $925.

I am going to look at the link for boots, now.

Yes, I am dealing with Go AZ in Scottdale, AZ-Twin! That silver one is the white aluminum metallic color but it is the one I am looking at.

The used bike is as clean as a whistle and very well maintained, so because it has all the options, a Remus, a seat cover and such, it is a real value, it seems.

Guess I need to set up a nice signature. Will do after I go boots shopping.

My 07 R1200S was about that or slightly less out the door new over a year ago from Euromotorsports in Scottsdale.

Iron Horse in Tucson may have a used one, TacoDog just traded one I believe.

Beautiful AZ-Twin, just beautiful! Both bikes have ABS, ohlins, and wide rear wheels. The white new one, has little else. The used silver/red one has the alarm, the Remus (about $1500?), the rear seat cover ($300+) and two front seats, a red one and a black one. What to do?

As I just proved to myself on a week long adventure in Mexico on a rented F650GS (the thumper) I CAN'T RIDE A GS, my bad left shoulder can't handle the height.

The black one, though, did it have ABS, ohlins, and wide rear tire? Is it on a website somewhere?

$13,750 doesn't include tax and license, right? Do you pay tax on used bikes in AZ?

Seems like the best prices I've seen on loaded used ones is around $11K. I wouldn't add more than a grand or so for the Remus full exhaust and alarm, even then only if you really like the exhaust. I think the black seat is a plus, as is the pillion seat cover. $12,500 should be "all the money." A deal like that makes new ones hard to justify, IMO.

$13750, no tax, and license fees are what I paid +/- a few $ to the end of the year. There is no tax on used vehicles.

The Remus on this bike is gorgeous as is the condition of the bike with just 2K mileage. I also have a need for the alarm, if I take the bike to where I work. BTW, listed price of this bike on Craig's list was $14500, and this $13750 price was compromise with my offer of $13K. Dealer says I should buy it since it's been so well maintained, over dealer's white aluminum one @ $17K. I have to wait until BMW cashes out the F800S and they have until 10/29/08 to do that.

It may just make sense to bite the bullet and pay the $13750 to get "the one" I want.
