Would something like this work?

http://www.bellissimoto.com/images/IMG_extender.jpg

Ducati Mirror Extenders

http://www.bellissimoto.com/OberonBillet.html

This extends the mirror out and up.
I still think the S1000RR mirrors look the best.

Cheers

I use an CRG lane splitter on the clutch side bar-end coupled with the stock mirror delete kit. Looks great and works well.

Bryan I think that is exactly what the HP2S needs! Fab dudes, raise your hands!

As far as the bar end mirror I am sure I would hate it for many reasons.

I have Napoleon bar-ends on my '93 Duc and they're great. I got used to crap mirrors on my 1098, so the HP2S mirrors don't really bother me.

Bar end mirrors are great on certain bikes. Had them on my Megamoto. Got to agree with Shred though...on the HP2S..not so much.

Both LCP and myself tried CRG Arrow bar ends..........although the quality was great.......we still could not see behind that well.
I thought we had the problem solved, but no such luck.
There were also a couple of occasions where we were both surprised by riders suddenly appearing. Not good!!

We have both sold them and still looking for another solution like the Oberon's.

Cheers

HP2 sport mirror extensions

So do we have an agreement on the mirror position? Out 50mm and up 25mm? Does anyone have a donor mirror that they have lying around that I can give to my fab guy? I have already talked with him and shown him this thread and he is going to jump on the CAD drawing after the holidays. A donor mirror would save me from downing my bike. Let me know opinions of dimensions.

I think BigRed bought a couple of spares a while back.........you would just need the lower section for the bolt holes and shape.

Szazbo, how did you arrive at the 50mm and 25mm numbers? I would have to have another look to see how that would work.

Thanks for the poke with a stick Sergio........but riding slowly is the only way in traffic sometimes!
Out on the open road, we never seemed to have a problem.
One of the comments we had from a competant GSXR pilot was how he had his poor little 750 wrung out trying to keep up with a couple of old farts on BMW's.........or something to that effect.

Cheers

OK........now don't laugh too hard.......I had some time and carved up a pair of mirror extenders to see if they would even work.
These are 50mm long, made out of some teflon I had.
I can actually see behind me now................

The question is..........how can someone put something like this on such an exquisite bike??????

Well.......they do come off easy..........flame on!!

I did some measuring and Szazbo is pretty close with the 50mm out and 25mm up.

Cheers

Are those O-rings on the grips?

If so, what size? I'm kinda over the grip monkeys I put on mine... a tad too thick.

Yup, they remind me of ant antennae; but, those are some interesting sliders.

Sergio;

They are O-rings on the grips.I find them a little too hard.
I am going this route..........

Beemer Buddies handgrip covers group buy for BMW bikes (from Cure for Skinny Grips) - ADVrider

They are not as thick as grip puppies, so for the price it is worth a try. One day left at $20.

Nail;

I like to leave the odd thing in my photo's to see if you guys are paying attention.

I did a lot of work around the front end of the HP2 this fall and after hitting my head on the Euro turn signals, it was time for some protection in the form of pipe insulation.
Those signals are sharp!!

The mirrors do look like antennae, but wasn't there a Star Wars creature that had eyes at the end of stalks?
That is what comes to my mind.

Cheers

Bryan, are you sure you aren't trying to pass off the Hornig items as your own?

http://www.motorcycleparts-hornig.com/BMW-R-1200-S-and-HP2-Sport/Alu-High-grade-Steel/Mirror-Extensions.html

I think if you could accurately take a 30 degree slice off this, you could then use the wedge shaped piece on the underside to facilitate mounting. I don't get the o-ring thing at all, especially given you are a biker but to each his own. I actually love the stock grips and find the tactical feedback to be perfect, especially with my Sidi gloves!

Shreddr;

Mine are a copy of the Hornig.........and longer.
I did think about making them angled, but you need 2 different bolt on spots to do that..........I just wanted to try this to see how it worked.

AHHHHHHHH........just reread what you wrote.....an angled cut and then the piece under the fairing would work.
I still think something like the Oberon extenders would be best.

About the o-rings..........I hate the broom stick grips.....the o-rings were a trial and worked pretty good, but with so much weight on my wrists, the o-rings just feel too hard.

Cycling bar tape worked really well on the grips, but the stuff I used was too slippery........still searching for the best set up.

Cheers

I sent Oberon a message and asked if they could do an HP2S version. I am waiting for their reply, group-buy anyone?

S1000 Mirrors on Hp2 Sport

Ok here I go again. I posted the video showing the S1000 mirrors on the Sport and really liked the way that they look. You know like stock BMW. A couple of guys on the BMWSR site said that they did the conversion but no pics yet.
I was having some reservations about drilling more holes in the CF especially 11mm holes.
After reading LCP's comments about if they work why would you ever go back to the stockers I decided to take the plunge and order some mirrors and the decouplers.
The decouplers are essentially a rubber insulation and actually require drilling about a 13mm hole. I decided that I would not go this route. The S1000 fairing is very flexible and BMW ties the mirror mounts to the nose fairing. Quite the opposite with the stiffness of the Sports CF nose piece.
Got a call this week letting me know that my mirrors ready for pickup. After the good guy discount, was $160 out the door.
Doing some measurements it appears like the mirrors will be about 5-6 inches wider total then the stockers.
Still having the drill apprehensions I had another idea. See if I could take the brand new mirror apart so I could make a new lower section that has the same bolt pattern as the original mirrors. What was there to lose? Ruin a brand new mirror?
I drilled out the rivet that holds the tension mechanisim together. Was not too tough and pulled out the wave springs leaving the center pivot that needed to be punched out.
This is a totally doable alternative to modfying the faring. I am going to start the CAD modeling essentially copying the original brackets upper section and making a longer lower section. Probably make it out of aluminum or maybe make a mold to cast it. Depends on how many I make. I think that I will offer some new mirrors that are modified and ready to bolt on if anyone is interested.
Not sure exactly what the cost will be yet, but let me know. Might take a month to get the drawings completed in my spare time but I will post updates as they arise.
