Full Akrapovic Race System Installed (many pics)

I installed the full Akrapovic Race system on my R12S yesterday. This system has the usual Akra titanium muffler (no baffles included), and all of the other pipes are stainless. It has the same geometry as the full titanium Evolution system, is 3 pounds heavier than the Ti, and about $675 less. I bought it from Evoluzione for $1622. In the 200 miles I rode today (took day off work to celebrate the Akra) I am thrilled with it.

Here are pics:

The system came very well packed and each part was individually bubble wrapped.

The cross over pipe had an interesting baffle inside:

Before Akra:

After:

Installation was straightforward. The provoded instructions were excellent. Each piece of the system fit perfectly and everything appears to be very well made and carefully thought out. Contrary to others I have read, I did not get any extra springs with mine. As instructed, I cleaned the Ti parts with WD-40 before starting and the stainless parts with electrical contact cleaner. This edivently prevented any grease or fingerprints from getting burned in.

More pics:

I installed the Evoluzione license plate bracket at the same time. I will post my thoughts on it in a separate thread and provide more pics.

The bike was fast before and it is fast now. I had heard the Akra slip on system before so I knew what I was getting into. The sound at idle is great, and even better under load. I don't think it is too loud and I am completely happy with it so far.

Evoluzione was great to deal with, I talked to Ken directly. He didn't have the system in stock when I called, but he did after 1 week. Excellent service.

Jonyo, I am up in Snohomish county outside of Everett. We should definitely meet up for a ride sometime.

JonM, I feel like your my crash-test dummy (meant in the kindest way). Your doing all the things I plan to do once my bike gets here.

BTW, do you know if you can buy the head pipes separate from the can? I already have the Akra can, but would like the SS header pipes.

With a new model like the R12S, people need to step up and try things at risk. I don't mind doing my share if a few others will do the same.

You should call Evoluzione and ask for Ken about ordering "spare" Akra parts. To my knowledge, Akrapovic does not have an "everything but the can" assembly ready to go in one box. But they do put part numbers on everything (see the Akra PDF documents), sort of implying you can buy spares.

When I bought my system, I asked about buying a set of baffles for it (in case I need them for some reason in the future I can't think of yet), but Ken told me he couldn't get them and/or we can't get them in the US. But it's still worth a shot on the other parts.

Parts Unlimited and Lockhart are not stocking the full Akra systems. I don't know how Evoluzione is getting them into the US, but it's working and they have decent stock at the moment.

Any need to change FI programming or change a chip? Would be interesting to see this system on the dyno.

Supposedly there is no need to make any other changes.

I bought my bike slightly used and I would like to see how it performs on a dyno for reasons other than just the Akra upgrade. I changed the oil as soon as I got the bike and sent a sample of the used oil out to Blackstone Labs for similar reasons. Does anyone know a good dyno tester in the Pacific NW?

Hi Jon
Just a quick question on the down pipe from the can ,is the Akra system the same diameter as the stock pipe As you would be aware that the standard down pipe is a larger diameter than the stock header pipes
My next purchase 1x akra full system -would be great to here it
Looks great !!!!

Hi Jon!

Read that this was your answer to Bob Hancock's question "Any need to change FI programming or change a chip? Would be interesting to see this system on the dyno."

I've got the Akra full-Ti system installed and I ran into information about the combination of the full Akra system and a Rapid Bike upgrade. I think that's what Bob is referring to... Supposedly it brings you about a measured 128 hp at the rear wheel (about 140 hp at the crank. That might even shut up Chris Geuting ... Now if that ain't some reason to make changes.

The dyno graph is on a german site: http://gs-fun-factory.homepage.t-online.de/R1200S%20Zeigmal.pdf?foo=0.3431230258859405 More also under http://www.m-tec.org/html/r1200s.html
It's in German. The manufacturer of Rapid Bike can be found under www.tovami.com.

I'm thinking about installing the Rapid Bike. Hope to get more info on what alternatives there are in combination with my Akra system.

Greetings to y'all.

GYD

BTW Jon, perhaps you should have taken the Ti headers: the blue and orange of the hot titanium headers makes a great combo with the yellow!!

I already packed the stock system away, but the next time I am in my storage area I will put my caliper on some pipe diameters and post results.

I am as interested in the Rapid Bike upgrade as anyone. I don't have one or know anyone who does. I would like to find a local motorcycle dyno but have not had time to look for one, yet.

I just finished the exact same install on my bike, evoluzione included. That was, by far, the best fitting exhaust system I've ever put on anything The license bracket seemed to be at my door in 2 days, excellent service. Can hardly wait to go for ride this weekend.

If your Laser exhaust has hangers for the OEM bracket then this will bolt right on

Too Many Toys, Let us know what Ken says. I'm in the same boat, i.e. Akra slip on and looking for a header.... maybe a group header buy?
