R1200S pillion solution, luggage solution - pictures

Hi,

I've been meaning to "show off" my bike for a while... it's just like every other "colgate" R1200S... but it is mine... and I've done a few things to it that I think are useful.

I have mentioned in the past that I solved my "pillion comfort" problem... and that I had a luggage alternative to the factory bags... and I have been asked for details.

So, I took a few amateur photos today (I'm no CKCARR) and set up a simple website. The photos are fairly large to show detail... my apologies for any delay in loading.

I am also toying with the idea of a belly pan. I have collected countless photos of R12S's with belly pans installed from half a dozen or more vendors. So far I'm leaning towards the Hesa... but that's for another day.

Curious parties can point their browsers here: http://www.stocklogic.com/R1200S/

Cheers,
Ian

Mighty fine craftsmaship Ian...just like it so much when someone designs their own unique solution and saves money to boot!

Nice work, of course the ultimate opinion will be from R1100Sportour who has been whining from day 1 about the lack of tourability of the R12S, looks like you have the answer for him.

Thanks. Me too. I like your avatar. Just read "Inside Out" by Nick Mason. As a lad, I once sat beside his Mom on a transatlantic flight. Life is strange.

I half expected the usual comments like "...some leaves need raking..." or "...is that moss I see on the side of the walkway?..."

Cheers,
Ian

Love that garden, beautiful bike - love that color, nice add-ons and descriptions are great. Yesterday, got the same tank protector you show, but mine is clear, factory tank bag, and one of the three official R1200S tool kits. The OEM saddle bag install was aborted as parts thought to be in, were not, but RMO'd for Tuesday delivery; not sure when I can get back, though.

Cheers, Ian.

This rack-bag solution seems very competitive.

Bag size is 56 litres (H x W x D) 460 x 500 x 310 mm, 18 x 20 x 12 inches expanded.

Ventura Bike Pack for R1200S

With the genuine BMW R1200S tank bag you have quite a bit of carrying capacity.

Ian,
Forgot to say, really nice job on the brackets and seat mod. I do wounder about the load on the Akrapovic and can mounts though.
I’m surprised more people don’t modify the pillion seat on the R12S, it would make it a lot more usable for those would need it and would not cost much even it you had to pay a pro.

OwenM - I do wounder about the load on the Akrapovic and can mounts though.

Yes, I have considered this too. But it seems OK for my purposes. For the moment I just need a place to put a sandwich or two, a rain suit, some small tools, the odd book, etc. Very light weight and no evidence of stress on the mounts. That titanium is tough stuff. But for me, that's all I need to carry 99.9% of the time. The tank bag provides room for a weekend trip.

If I were to embark on a multi-day trip, I might consider the factory bags or other alternatives.

Cheers, thanks for the comments.
Ian
