R1100S Spark Plug Notes...

I've been using the Autolite 3923 Spark Plugs in my '99 R1100S for many thousands of miles now and I'm completely satisfied with them.

I recently discovered that our '97 BMW 318ti with 1.9 Liter M44 Engine and our '07 VW Passat Variant with 2.0t FSI Engine can also use the very same Autolite 3923 Spark Plugs. I just replaced the Spark Plugs in both cars over then weekend.

The OEM Plugs in the '07 VW are Bosch P/N: F6KPP332S (~$20 each at the local VW Dealer). These plugs are not multi electrode...rather conventional looking except for a very narrow tip. I replaced them with the same because it's a Turbo Motor with 10.5:1 Compression - read high pressure under boost. Since Spark Plugs can be a leak path in themselves I decide to stay with the OEM units.

The plugs that were in the '97 BMW were Bosch F7LDCR Twin Electrode. The www.318ti.org Blog had a few negative notes about these plugs (rough low idle) so I replaced them with Autolite AP3923 Plugs (Platinum).

In any case, it's two more spark plug types/models that may be used in our R1100S Engines. For myself I'd lean towards the Bosch P/N: F6KPP332S. Obviously the ceramic core diameter and length would need to be considered with respect to heat range beforehand.

Here's a pic of the plugs I removed from both cars...VW (Bosch P/N: F6KPP332S) on the right and BMW (Bosch F7LDCR Twin Electrode) on the left.
