too little, too late

Out of the blue, on the 7th of January, the local dealer both left a message and wrote an email to announce that 'my' HP2S had landed in Melbourne. on the 15th I received a letter from the General Manager of BMW Motorrad Australia, posted on the 12th of January, saying that he was pleased to [officially] announce the same thing and that I'd get a 'free' tank bag when I take delivery.

I'm completely underwhelmed. Fifteen months of waiting, unable to get any information on expected delivery through the dealer or from the general manager before now.

My intention is to send a cordial reply declining to receive the order (having cancelled and received a refund of deposit in November) but turn the screws just a little by mentioning how the deal would have been done if he'd just bothered to be a bit more upfront and try just a tad harder to keep me informed how my $35,000 commitment was being addressed.

Geez this has me upset...my apologies for the rant

Good things come to those who wait mate, that sounds lame.
Anyway, the slow delivery may work to your advantage, you may be able to negotiate a lower price.
If you do not intent to take the bike let me know, I may be interested. Did you order it with ABS?

If you still want it ...
try to get a % money back because waiting for over a year
(10/12% is the dealers profit, but it's not his fault it's a wait for so long)
but don't be satisfied with only a stupid little tankbag !!!

if you are too disappointed, just cancel it (so as you already did.... )

I'm still waiting ... I postpone the order because the delivery was in september because the weather here is not of that kind you are going for a fun drive ...
That was possible because the dealer switched it with his own that was scheduled to arrive later (week 4 ... )
Order it 5 january 2008, and waiting for a fooncall that can be every day now !?

I know Breeman in Rotterdam has one in storage, unsold and has so for a while (they haven't advertised it), so if one would want one, but not wait, it is possible.

No need to apologize - pretty good reason for a rant.

Otoh, it's worth chilling a bit and thinking it over for a day or two.
If you're truly that pissed, then fair enough, but don't cut off your
nose to spite your face, if you REALLY WANT the bike.
Don't punish yourself.

Good luck whatever you choose.

Get the bike Jim.

I was having a whinge once about something and a friend said to me, in typical ozzie aplom ..."Why don't you just get over yourself and get on with it!" ...

I aint saying you need to do that coz you have been kicked in the pants, but I guess it's a chance to get out of the box your in with this whole shamozil (??)

You havn't 'won' if you rollover and try to forget the whole thing.

Beat them down somehow - get a cracking deal and enjoy the bike - the bloody beautiful thing that it is.

PS
Look out for BMW flags at WSBK PI - I'll be there with the R12S and a flag. Look out for a bald fat head...

Did I say get the bike?

Get the bike Jimbo

The rant is fine. I agree with Roger too. Now, go buy the bike if you still want it and you still have the funds. If you don't, a month from now you might really be mad at yourself.

Ran into a similar deal recently over a set of rims for my car. After I thought about the options for a couple of days, I realized the dealer (also a very good friend) was right, and I made the correct decision. If I had gone the way I was originally thinking, I wouldn't be happy with my choice now.

Some BMW dealers operate on completely different wave lengths for some reason. Have one in Fresno CA. But sometimes one just has to bite the bullet for what they want.

Just my 2 cents. Good luck with whatever decision you make.

I didn't order ABS. My passion has cooled for this particular toy, the bike it is available to whoever gets in there first. Good luck.

I once had a K100RT ordered. 6 weeks from BMW to Melbourne and another 6 weeks from Melbourne to Hobart! And I thought I was frustrated....

Ranting is healthy. Pre-sales service is usually a pretty good indicator of what the post-sales service will be like.
