Question r1200 less oiling poor sealing???

I've done 17000kms no issues, many have done more than me, much more. Yellow 12 (Ant) has done a whopping 45 000kms and I don't think he has had any such issues - never heard anyone here mention anything either and we are the centre of the BMW universe (jokes) so - I'd say yessir...bad dream!

FWIW - A male friend of mine dream't he gave birth, he was really worried and we were all just being supportive which made his worry worse, he couldn't understand why we were all so calm about this diabolical situation he was in. He said at one point he was squatting trying to hold his innards in - he didn't want to have the baby me thinks.

So - your OK bro' there's bad dreams and then there's bad dreams

I don't have the slightest idea what this means.

I'm not the only one that's done alot of miles/km.
I've had no issues of that sort. (whatever those issues are exactly)

My Jugs are fine

That was just a problem with the very early prototypes. I think Dean was the tester, so it may have been operator error...

Search Advrider. There is something about this there. I remember reading it some time back.

Actually, I can offer calming advise to the contrary... when Nate was racing at Barber last August, he came in after a race, telling us that there is an odd noise coming from the engine's left side... sometimes more sometimes less loud.

I rode the bike over to the dyno for the mandatory dyno run and we got 5 different values over 5 runs... with a variance of more then 5HP...

Jim and I decided that it would be prudent to check the valves to see whether there was something fishy going on and as I lifted the valve cover, one of the nuts that secures the head fell out... including a piece of the stud it used to be attached to!

Not just was he riding without any major problems, he was RACING!

No, there was no leak... neither internally, nor externally...

Looks like a lot of anecdotal stuff with questionable maint and service and used bikes at that, on at least some of the very low percentage of failed units. I've talked to 2 different BMW shop mechs (2 diff shops) and neither have seen this any more than I have, which is zero, so far.
I don't think the sky is falling -- and may not even be cloudy.

...not an R12, but cool none the less... so much for worrying about the longevity of the R11 motor!

I've had my bike now for about 1 year and I've put on 45000 Kms and other than buggering things up myself, the bike has just looked after itself.
I pulled off a coil without disconnecting the clip, and that cost me a replacement part from BMW as well as a new coil. The bike used a little oil in the first 40000Kms, but since then it uses a minuscule amount if any. The heated grips wore through but they were an easy replacement. The Staintune exhaust sounds nice and stays looking nice. There was a leaking rear drive seal taken care of under warranty.
Compared to a Guzzi LeMans it is more reliable and easier to maintain with better dealer support and warranty. Even compared to my Daytona 675, there has been less going wrong.
I just replaced the tyres with BT 021's and despite people turning their noses up at these, they grip really well here in wet BC and are a better bet than the Conti Road Attacks (they did last 23000 Kms though).
This is a great site and full of helpful information.

Since I just finished watching tonight's new episode of 24, I have to think that BMW may have crashed Advrider recently to keep the right hand cylinder conspiracy from becoming well known throughout the net.
