You should root for both, and it's not a breach of etiquette, given that they're in different series.
I'm more torn on wsbk. Love local (for me) club-racer-made good Ben Spies, vs long-time fav ducs and Nori, vs my much longer love, BMWs. Long as Suzuki doesn't sneak in with a great bike under Max N, I should be a happy camper, at least until I finally choose sides. Gonna be a killer year. |
Bring it on!

The official Phillip Island lap record is held by Corser with a 1:31.826 Cosers is a master at Phillip Island -- he has won seven time since 1996 - and if there is anyone who can go beyond the call in front of his home crowd it's the two-time world champion. "I am particularly impressed with the power my BMW produces, which you certainly need at a fast and flowing circuit like Phillip Island, which has one of the highest average speeds of any race track in the world" said Corser. "Also, chassis set-up is critical, as you need a machine that will 'fight' all the forces ast play - including some ferocious winds that sometimes come off Bass Straight!" "That's what I'll be concentrating on this weekend, and we'll continue to work hard as a team. I'm confident we'll be really competitive by the time Phillip Island comes around, as it's going to be a momentous occassion for BMW" |

no jonas, but i'm jaded about anybody putting out a release and tossing out numbers like that.
especially something like "200+". the space shuttle is "200+". plus what? a thousandth of a pony....at the wrist pin? plus five? plus fifty? plus "we know how much, but we don't want the competition to know?" (like it wouldn't be obvious anyway?). "approximately 207 HP" might have been more honest. and possibly just as accurate. so would "not available". if it were mine, i would have listed it at 276-. it's just as revealing and truthful as the bmw number. |
yup

QUOTE] I would say that the reason they put it on paper, is not to scare the opposition (They probably won't care anyway), it's for the only reason BMW prints anything - You and Me! They want us to be impressed and go and order one as soon as possible! Don't you think? Marketing - When people believe what you say! (New motivational poster maybe?) :) |

You are absolutely right Jonas, A rolling introduction with lots of teasers is the way that you build an excited audience and prospective customer base and brand following. True advertising is the accumulation of impressions and inputs that build but develop a strong positive and familiarity to what you are promoting. A positive roll out over time is great for a positive result. A strong WSB showing will be the icing on the cake. :p |

Is this another one of those brilliant marketing strategies? Hey, we are cool because we have 20+ ponies less that the competition... buy our bikes! And, what in heavens name does the race bike have to do with the street bike anyway?... other than the general shape of the bike... |
So you think that 220+ is more than 200+. What makes you think so, saying that 200+ is more than 220+ is an equal statement.
I would suggest that both have an equal chance of being more than 220. Just saying. A good poker player never shows all of his cards. |
Its going to be just like last Daytona...........Nay Sayer whiners........saying they will be luckey to even qualify........then they finish 5 and 6 overall........first time out. The Island will be the same way............predictable thick-bubble thinking by Ducati worshipers and "wish-I-had-ones" who in their heart think of BMWs as touring bikes. ONE of the new BMW bikes will be in the top ten or I lick a stamp for everybody on the list........................
With any luck at all, perhaps a mist of rain even, BMW could well land a hard fought 5th place at the Island. Churp and Tweet |
This is doing just what the BMW marketeers wanted. The BMW crowd is talkin' it up. One on one conversations will sell bikes--if the price is ballpark competitive. That Triumph 675 Daytona Triple show loos good.;)

What do you gain by lowballing, if you have the HP? You are not impressing the squids you are trying to impress, I guarantee you that... and a few geezers like us who may or may not decide to buy that thing will NOT make it worthwhile for BMW to invest that much money! |

Yeah, just like that... |

It would help if you go to the big city every now and then and catch a glimpse of "real life"... They need a lot more than the BMW crowd (whereas you are referring to a few people on a few message boards, linked to BMW) "talking the bikes up" in order to get the numbers they need to even start recovering the development cost and the cost for the racing circus... I don't know how it is in your little town but the rest of America is hurting! |
