Motorcycle Trailer recommendations

Looking for a trailer to haul up to 3 sport/dirt bikes, but usually just 1 or 2. I'm thinking of trailering down to Barber Motorsport this spring, and that's about 2000 miles, so I'm guessing that means a bigger wheel size is better for the long haul?

thanks,

Not sure what your towing with, but I have a 6x10 V-nose enclosed (3'v) and I can easily haul 3 bikes. Mine is standard height, many are 6" over, but I haul it with the Saab so the lower height makes it pull easier at 80 MPH . Mine is from R&R ( http://www.rnrtrailers.com ) and is Aluminum framed, so It is light as well. Thule ( http://www.thuletrailers.com/fw/main/Home-1.html ) Rance ( http://www.rancealuminum.com/ ) and Feather Light makes a nice aluminum framed units and they are popular in the NE.

Barber....................when is this anyway..........................twist my arm...............

Go for the torsion axle as opposed to leaf springs as they have inherent damping and sit lower. Brakes are a good idea if you travel at higher speeds as well.

If you are looking at an open trailer again I prefer aluminum trailers, Triton makes a good 3 rail, Worthington trailers are very well made too, but expensive.

Hey Kevin, you should just come to Calabogie with me this summer. Alan Wilson designed both tracks, and he said the Boogie is his best!!!

http://www.calabogiemotorsports.com/pdf/TrackMap.pdf

From Alan Wilson
“The shape, the corners, the climbs, and the character have all been created, not by computer, but by walking through the woodlands, searching for the natural flow of the land - a process made anything but easy due to the extremely difficult terrain. Corner names like Big Rock, Candy Mountain, and the Wicked Wilson’s define the character of the road course, while Rocky Road and the Ridge are synonymous with anticipation and a certain degree of fear.

Calabogie Motorsports Park is the 22nd Wilson Motorsport designed race/track facility to open. The Calabogie Experience is in many ways unique, and perhaps my personal favorite (a bit like a father choosing which kid he likes best).

This facility will become the premier driving experience in North America. ”

Thanks for the info.

The date for the event is May 8 & 9.

http://www.triumph675.net/forum/showthread.php?t=26385

The trip to Barber was born out of a Triumph 675 meet. A local friend and fellow 675 owner was going to make the trip down and had room for 2 more bikes. I signed up along with another guy, but then the original guy with the truck/trailer had to back out (he got the dates mixed up with his family vacation).

The two of us left still wanted to go, and I'd been looking to get a tow vehicle already (signed up for season pass with Fishtail Riding school) but didn't want to tow with my car. I'm sure my car would probably be fine with 1 or 2 bikes, but I didn't want to compromise on the trailer to accomodate my car.

Anyway, I just got a Toyota FJ with the tow package and wanted to get something to haul 2 bikes mainly, but up to 3 in a pinch. I was thinking of an open trailer to hopefully reduce the mpg impact, but an enclosed trailer is pretty tempting still.

Be cool if you (or anyone else) joined us. Its an open event (not just 675's). 675.net just picked a random trackday to attend.

I'm not sure how many of these trips I'll be allowed each year, but I'll definitely try to hit Calabogie with you at some point.

I already think this is going to be eye opening. I've only done a handful of trackdays, but all have been at Loudon, NH and that track seems slow compared to other tracks (not many long stretches to build up speed).

Hmmm, I'd rather track my GS than the K

Do the mounting bolts line up with either the old handles or the new luggage rack? That's pretty nice.

If anyone knows about hauling bikes to the track, it's Nate Kern. We spoke on this subject Monday at our BMW track day at Roebling. Nate recommended the Aluminium Trailer Company www.aluminumtrailer.com/ . I'd check it out.

I checked out the ATC trailers and they build the ultimate trailer. (Very expensive) I ended up going with a Featherlite trailer and am very satisfied with it. All aluminum with a v-nose makes it very easy to pull.

These guys make some top end stuff too, you can even get fiberglass outer panels rather than the sheet aluminum.
